Author: joangrrenada Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.blair/3688/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Promoted to help settle the western part of South Carolina, it drew people of German,French, Swiss and Scots-Irish decent. Many of the early 1760's boat listings show these people that arrived petitioning for this land. There were three areas set aside for them in South Carolina....all west of the 96 District but at that time in Granville Dist(referred to in old deeds and plats and one of the first divisions of SC)....now located in the county of McCormick that came out of Abbeville and Edgefield. They were called Belfast, also referred to as Londonborough,(22000 acres) Boonesborough,(28000 acres) and Hillsborough. Hillsborough....near Long Canes where enters Little River and contains the town of New Bordeaux (From the French influence) Belfast...lying on both sides of Hard Labor Creek above it's junction with Cuffeetown (Coffeetown)Creek....also went by the name of Belfast Twnship. This was just a jump across the River to GA. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It is important to research SC division and history of counties and Districts....to know that the 1790 census listed the District people lived in, not the counties included in that district and the 1800 census listed the actual county. Knowing when counties and Districts formed will help in your research. SC can be a very complicated state to trace the whereabouts of ancestors.Often they didn't move, the county changed. 1. [BLAIR] Jennie Blair - (1860 - )
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: samburubas1 Surnames: Blair Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.blair/3686/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, I'm researching the family line of John W Blair Sr (b. 1816, d 1916)and am having a hard time finding one daughter, Jennie, born in New York about 1860, to John and his wife, Margaret Ann Field Hughes Blair of New York. Problem #1: The 1860 US Federal Census for New York Ward 16 District 2, New York, New York, where the family lived, lists only these children: Jane Blair (13), John W Blair Jr (9), William (7), Charlotte (4), Thomas (1) my great grandfather. No sign of Jennie, but she may have been born after the census was taken. Problem #2: Jennie doesn't appear in any census until the 1910 census for Groton, Brown County, South Dakota. She had been married to a Mr Willion, and they had one son Benjamin. Jennie was widowed when Mr Willion was killed in a wagon accident, based on records I've found, but I have no concrete evidence about his demise. After Jennie was widowed, both Jennie (50)and Benjamin (17) moved in with John (86)and Margaret (80) at that time. Problem #3: The 1900 census for Groton lists John, Margaret, and Benjamin (8), but not Jennie. Where was Jennie between 1860 and 1900? Problem #4: There's a Jennie G Blair I've found on the internet, who married George Henry Blair and lived in Kansas, and I don't think this is the right Jennie. It is very confusing when someone marries a person with the same surname. I want to point out that I'm not referring to the daughter of Thomas Blair, Jennie, born in 1904, but the Jennie born in 1860. Does someone have any information on "our" Jennie Blair born in 1860? I am most appreciative of your time and effort in solving this mystery. Sincerely, Dilys Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
