It couldn't be Wilgar, by any chance. It's an unusual name, so I wouldn't be surprised if someone had written it down as Wilmer or Wilbur. A relative of mine, Sarah McDonald (born c 1860s) married a Hugh Blair, emigrated to the USA and moved about between there and Canada. One of her sons was called Wilgar (other children were Malcolm, Robbie, Ardelle, Polly and Janet). Wilgar and Malcolm Blair fought in WWI. Let me know if you think there's a connection. Surnames: McDonald, Patton, Nelson, Malcolm, Blair, Robb, Moore, Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/1ME.2ACEB/22.1 Message Board Post: Hi there In reply to Jacqueline Welson's posting of 12/05/1999, it's not Wigar, it's Wilgar, which I reckon must have been a family surname of the Malcolm or Blair family, used as a christian name. I don't know much about the Blair family history, but I'm a McDonald from Newtownards in Co Down, Northern Ireland, and there are loads of family members buried at Movilla Cemetary in Newtownards, including Sarah McDonald's parents. Also, the McDonald's attended Newtownards Methodist Church if that's any help. Sarah McDonald (my relative) was the daughter of Alexander McDonald of Loughriescouse, Newtownards and his second wife Jane Malcolm. Alexander was the son of John McDonald (born 19/10/1784 died 15/02/1870) and his wife Anna Patton (born 1793 died 05/06/1845). John's father was supposed to have been a Roderick McDonald born in 1729 in Scotland, but I've not yet got proof of this. Alexander (born 25/05/1816 died 31/05/1876) appears to have had 9 children by his first wife Grace Nelson (born 1815 or 1816 died 14/04/1849). These were: William Thomas & John (twins - both died 22/12/1843) Sophia Elizabeth (b 1844 d 1893) married William Moore Mary (b 1849) married Hugh Robb Martha - married a Mr Burns William - married Nelly McDonald (a distant cousin) James - no info Grace - no info Annie - no info Alexander then had another 9 children by Jane Malcolm (born 1829 died 29/11/1896) whom he married on 26/07/1849 at 1st Presbyterian Church, Donaghadee. These were: William John - married Jane Malcolm (1st cousin) Robert - unmarried Katherine (d 1933) married Robert Hughes James Alexander (Dr Sandy) (d 1928 Taunton Somerset) Margaret - married William McDonald (1st cousin) Malcolm (1864-1928) married Jeannie Clarke Sarah - married Hugh Blair (1st cousin) Hans? Wilgar (Dr Wilgar) (b 1867) Dr Sandy was supposed to ahve been twice chairman of the British Medical Association and he and several brothers played Lacrosse for Ireland (pre-partition!) against Canada and the USA. All the info I have on Sarah McDonald is that she married Hugh Blair, whose mother was a Malcolm, so they were 1st cousins. The LDS website records a Hugh Blair and a Mary Malcolm having a son born on 03/11/1864 at Newtownards, but I can't be sure whether that son was the Hugh Blair who married Sarah McDonald. Anyway, according to the information I have, their children were Malcolm, Wilgar (both named after Sarah's brothers) Janet, Ardelle, I had Eileen but you say it's Polly, and Robbie (also named after one of Sarah's brothers). I've been told they lived in Cleveland Ohio, then Western Canada, then California, then back to Canada, but your informations probably more accurate. Wilgar and Malcolm served in WWI and visited their relatives in Northern Ireland while on leave. Sarah Blair's sister Mary Robb emigrated to Canada with her husband and they opened a branch of his family's Belfast Department store in Toronto, but I've no idea if Sarah and Hugh Blair ever lived anywhere near them. Hope this helps. I've more information if you want to pusue the McDonald line further. Fiona McDonald

They were living on what looks like Paugh Creek Road. David Blair is about the right age(38) to fit the one buried in Harris Cemetery. He is listed as brother-in-law, which also fits, since Julia Blair was the daughter of David Taylor Blair and Mary Frances Mahana. If John A Wallace was your gg uncle, then you must also be connected to John Franklin Wallace who married Rosa Ellen Wilkerson, (Susan's daughter from her first marriage). I also found a Jack Blair living in Frank and Ellen's household in 1930 San Saba. He was listed as a cousin. David T Blair and Mary Frances Mahana did have a son named Jack. He was the baby of the family and could possibly be the Jackson listed as a sibling on the tombstone of David T.Blair in Harris Cemetery.

They sent me lots of material on the line of both Bonhams and Blairs. Her first marriage was to Jim Bonham who died of typhoid in Oklahoma. She returned to Arkansas and later married C.C. Hagar. Her real name is Leanna Elizabeth Blair. Her father Josiah Patterson Blair and her mother Nancy Ann McClain. They lived in Melbourne, Arkansas. I still don't know about the Cherokee heritage but now I have more to go on and will keep trying. Thank you again for responding to my e-mails. Be Blessed Pam

Arkansas. Married Nancy Ann McClain [abt.1824] from Lauderdale, Alabama.
I have successfully traced my family name back to Thomas Blair, who married Margaret Burney at Bromfield in 1793. According to his death certificate he was 84 years in 1840, therefore born about 1756. BUT where? If anyone can help me I should be grateful. I also have details of another line of Blairs, originating from Kirklinton, Cumberland, William and Stephen Blair abt 1720-30, believed to be brothers. Their descendants moved to Bolton Le Moors, Chorlton on Medlock, Lancashire. The most recent record I have of this family is the 1881 Census. I should be interested in hearing from any one with connections to this family. John Harrison Blair, Harrison Falkner Blair (he was a Barrister in Manchester area 1881), Harrison Blair and his daughters,Frances Beatrice Blair b. Deane, Lancs 1862, Florence Blair b. Stand, Lancs 1855. The information I have was found amongst my Grandfather's papers, therefore I feel there must be some connection to my line, but pieces of this jigsaw are missing, if anyone can find them, please contact me Anne
