    3. For those of you not familiar with the Isle of Axholme (north west part of Lincolnshire, between Gainsborough and Goole), the following might be of interest. Having just been able to visit the area for the first time in many years, and pick up an information leaflet, you may like to know that there is a smithy heritage centre and village museum at Owston Ferry, on the west bank of the Trent. This has been restored by the Owston Ferry Society and is open on Sundays, May to September, including Bank Holidays from 2-5pm. Parties can visit at other times by appointment. Enquiries: Don Clapham, Riverdale, Bagsby Road, Owston Ferry. Tel: 01427-728361. The centre also offers couples the chance to have their 'wedding vows and anniversaries welded at the Anvil with a Smithy Wedding Blessing...' Incidentally the smithies a few miles north in the Marshlands, at Swinefleet and Adlingfleet can still be seen, though the latter is now in a sorry state of repair. The smithy on the main road from Eastoft to Goole, which seemed to have been built in the same style as Adlingfleet, now seems to have disappeared. Charlotte Hursey
