My husband has a Toyota 1-ton, 1985 R2 model. Still loves it. He rebuilt (himself) the engine once. Has 200,000 miles on it. It's a 2-wheel, but he installed a trick differential and it goes anywhere. (A lot of it, he says, is just knowning what you're doing. It went mostly anywhere before the new rear-end.) He puts heavy duty tires on it so that it can truly handle a ton and it has, when moving. (But don't expect any speed going uphill on the Grapevine fully loaded.<g> It's a 4-cylinder.) We're going to replace the bench seat with buckets and a console and keep it a few more years.
