I've lost much of my adoptive family to cancers as well as a cousin-in-law, last year. My oldest brother and Bobby's cousin had the most liver involvement. The way that the oncologist explained it to my s-i-l is that the liver works as a filter for our bodies. Anything in the blood passes through the liver. Thus, nearly all of the time, when cancer appears in the liver it has been caught there while coming from somewhere else. Cousin David had developed it in 2 lobes of his liver and it had presumably come from the other locations in his body, mostly his stomach/esophogus. The Drs. did aggressive treatments with him and were able to buy him more time but his cancers were so far advanced by the time that he had sought treatment that he was very lucky that he was able to have 18 mos. instead of the initial 3 that was the original prognosis. Brother Bob waited way too long to visit the Dr. also as did my other brother, Bud. Guess that should be a lesson to us all. :-( Feel free to contact me privately if you'd like, Cammie. Best, SueB
