Hi, Sheepers! This occupation was not really so unusual - for some - during WWII. Two of my sisters worked in an ordnance factory. One worked with regular machine gun bullets - something to do with making sure they were secure on the bandoliers before they went into the boxes ... but the other one made land mines. She loaded the powder into the land mines with some sort of measuring spoon (for want of a better name). They both wore special shoes to eliminate static electricity. The land mine sister left her shift each day with a good case of the 'shakes'. Now - who wouldn't with such a job! The pay was good but what a way to make a living! Incidently, you have no doubt heard of the saying, "the whole nine yards"? Comes from the length of the machine gun belt/bandolier with the bullets in it. Shirley: [email protected]
My cousins husband, cousin-in-law?, worked in a storage facility for bombs and old amino, bombs, etc. He defused the bombs. Now that is not a job I would want.
