I am getting to enjoy funerals more: When someone of our acquaintance has a relative "depart" - I sit in the coffee lounge on visitation evening and hear the relatives of the deceased talk about how sad it is that they only meet distant relations at funerals. Everyone winds up re-introducing themselves to second cousins, and children of divorced aunts, etc. THEN someone says : "Ii wish we had this all written down, so we could remember who is who" That's where i get to enter the conversation. As almost a newbie to this study, i am practically an expert to the uninitiated. Yesterday, some lady executive who is extremely familiar with the WWW was flabbergasted to hear that you could research roots and kin on the web. After explaining where to get PAFSETUP.exe and it's function, i was about to write some site names on the copious notepads the funeral home provided. She - instead gave me her card/e-mail so i could send her my bookmarks. It is kind of a kick to get others started.
I know what you mean. It's getting to where someone's gotta die for there to be a family reunion anymore. I am hoping to hold an annual event somewhat less formal than a reunion an call it Rendzvous. I am not at present able to host such an event, but when I am it will be the same time every year so that everyone will know when it is and can plan far enough ahead to make it if they want to. The present plan is to make it the first full weekend (friday thru monday) of August every year. My sister's vacation falls during that time (she works in the educational system in Napa) and most of the people I have talked to can make arrangements for that time with enough fore knowledge. Hopefully I will be in a position to do this next year... I hope... Calvin B. Littlefield, IBSSG (Sadly considering dress uniform) "Anymore I only wear this thing for funerals and weddings. Lately there have been too many of one and damned few of the other." -- another line from a story I haven't written yet.
