Hi Listmates! I can't believe that summer is fast on the wane already which is probably what triggered the thought of this subject matter. Anyway, on with my summer itinerary..... It's actually been a rather slow summer here insofar as travel is concerned but we've been passing the time with visits from the grandkids, down from MI. First we had Dylan (aka The ADHD Kid) for his 4 wks. Honestly, after the experiences with him the previous 2-3 years, I was gritting my teeth. However, I can truthfully say that this year's visit was delightful. There has been some changes in his meds and the effect has been extraordinary. He was a joy to have and be around. There was only one 'incident' where he decided to build a campfire in the front yard but, I've gotta say, that it was a nice tidy little campfire--rapidly extinguished upon it's discovery. On the upside, we picked nearly 2 gallons of blackberries and I got chiggers. There were walks, horseback riding and lots of swimming and other stuff that we do on a daily basis that the kids regard as different from their routines at home. Erika arrived the same day that her brother headed home and we did much of the same stuff with her as well. We did have the addition of an annual family reunion in Jackson, TN that we attended. Erika and I also did a 4 mile hike around the nearby lake, with the dogs in tow. And I got chiggers. :-( On the home front, I've been treating a neck wound that our yearling colt inflicted upon himself that resulted in an emergency Vet visit and 6 or more stitches. I've also been learning how to do a natural hoof trim, based on studies of the wild horses, in order to treat his mother for her founder. She was in bad shape, barely mobile, and spending most of her time lying down, not even getting up to be fed. I am pleased to say that she is moving around now after 3 wks. though we've still got months to go before she could be considered sound again. No farrier am I but I am VERY pleased to see that she is in less pain and that there's progress being made. Also, I'm not sure that I'll ever put another horseshoe on a horse again. This past Tues. we got to make the trip into Memphis for a fun filled day of root canaling for Bobby. The local rates for the service here were just ridiculous so we opted for experimentation (*g*) by the students at the dental school there. So far, so good! Next week we have company arriving from OR for a few days. This is Bobby's cousin who is descended from the sister of his dad's grandmother and who was found via internet genealogy. Funny, she seemed just like family as soon as she got out of the car on her first visit 2 years ago! Aside from that, not much else happening here.... :-) How has YOUR summer been? Best, SueB http://www.cdbaby.com/suegilmore
Summer has been HOT,Hot, and stressful. We bought newer used car several months ago, and it has worked well, but financially it ut us on "edge". I decided exercise was needed in my life, so I spent more time away from the keyboards, and more out hiking. We took up a hobby called GeoCaching, (http://www.geocaching.com) and started looking for hidden caches of o0ds and ends in our area. A FUN thing to do. You should use a GPS reciever to find the hides. The whole family enjoys it. Last week ZI hit a hand sized riock with mycar on the way to a cache. All week I have ben without an OIL PAN in the car, the insurance guiy JUST showwed up to lookk at it, and says they will mail us an estimate in a few days AFTER they tow it in for examination. It has been a week already with NO car. Other than that I have been doing a rework of the Montgomery County USGenWeb site, (http://www.rootsweb.com/~inmontgo/) in Indiana, which is IMPROVING very nicely, although slowly. Still Looking for Peffleys, Millers, and many others.... ~~~ Jeff Scism, International Blacksheep Society of Genealogists
AKA in Geocaching circles "GeoCan" Geography, genealogy, geocaching, geology, I am stuck in the Gs.
Ok, Here is my summer vacation, though mine was not as eventful as Sue's. We went and picked up my son and his very unliked girlfriend and their baby in June. They were not here a month when she went traipsing over across the street flitting around a boy there. They got my son put in jail and extradited back to FL where he is now awaiting trial for tomorrow. Other than that we have stayed at home, had company from Fort Wayne for almost a month straight and between time played on my computer. My oldest daughter and her four daughters and the very unliked girlfriend of my son and their baby went to a family reunion in Lebanon where I met some new and unknown family members from my GGGrandfather Merridith L Owens. My Dad got sick and we had to put him in the hospital for almost a week and then take him to the hospital in Kokomo for an endoscopy, which turned out to be ok. He is 76 years old and is doing a lot better now. I have had the usual visits from my granddaughters that live here about 3 blocks from me. Nothing really exciting never happens here, but this summer has been a good one for excitement. Nearly threw me into a heart attack about 5 different times, until I learned to ignore them/her.
