Jack, you might want to check again on that. "Megan's Law" (federal) was passed about 5 or so years ago to make that information available, especially on the internet, where it's easy to reach. Megan was a little girl abducted and killed by a convicted molester who, unknown to her parents, lived in their neighborhood. So, after Megan was killed, it became a major drive to get this type of threat to the community known to all, rather than being able to continue, unnoticed. Since this is an untreatable problem, it seems fair that the community should know that they have a constant threat as long as those individuals live there. You should be able to ask about a neighborhood, any registered sex offenders in my neighborhood. Also, if the offender's conviction happened something like before 1978, they don't have to register.
