    3. The last I heard, it was $3.75/mo. down here. We don't pay it. The scare tactic that they use is that they charge $65/hr for the repairs inside your home, if *they* do it. My husband (or I) have been know to put in jacks ourselves and if there was a problem in a wire in the wall, we'd know how to handle that, too. And, if we couldn't, there's guys out there that do that work for a living for $25/hr. Because it's that simple to do. About 4 years ago, we were having a problem with a phone line that indicated that the wire was damaged. When I called them, they went over the rules, if it's outside the house, they pay for it, if inside, it's $65 an hour "because you don't have insurance". And then she said "are you sure you want us to come out?", as if I'm not sure I want to use the phone line I'm paying for every month and might be willing to just give up using the phones. (Maybe I should have changed to cellular only way back then...) I had them check the outside *only*. A ground squirrel had chewed into the line. It was not a real simple fix, involved some digging with a back hoe. (When we had moved in, the owner had hired a guy (not Pac Bell) to change something more complicated in the phone system inside the place and the total bill was $50.) Whatever goes wrong I just call them and they come out within 24 hours to repair it, even if my dog did chew the wire in half ! This wire repair thing is just insurance, and no company wants the reputation of not honoring their insurance policies.
