I don't know, sounds like for some that will happen. I have a Catholic son in law who left his church because of a priest who was dallying with the boys where he was living. My SIL is from Canada. It's not just an American problem. I'm sure this could be the final straw for some in cutting their ties to the RC church. And loss of membership alone will lead to diminished income. I don't think they worry too much about that yet--the RC is all over the world and this is so far a PR problem mostly in the US, although Europe is aware of what's going on here. This kind of situation could make it more difficult to recruit new priests, sort of a guilt by association fear preventing some from getting involved. For that reason alone, I think they'll have to allow married priests. I have a friend who had planned to become a priest, even started attending a seminary, but left because he just couldn't handle what he saw going on between the "boys" in the seminary.
