    3. Bill, I had to ask my husband what you were talking about. I didn't know there was a bet on the break up. lol So, when do the bets have to be in by? Who holds the money? How does one bet? Are there people standing around watching and waiting for something to happen--how many witnesses are there when the break up occurs? My husband told me about the wild bets, large and trivial, that happen, especially in the bars in AK. Wallets flung on the table and bets about how many consecutive commercials will be shown on the TV before the show is back on, things like that--any little reason to bet and some times hundreds of dollars are tossed on the table. lol But, I hadn't heard about the break up lotto. He tells me there's a lot of side bets going on, too. I missed it by 2 days. Must be because I forgot that we had a dry winter and water is what really causes it to breakup. Six people will share the 300+ thousand. If we hadn't of had a record wet Apr., it would probably would still be locked in ice. It was a beautiful day today 18+ hours of possible sunshine which it is still shining at 9:18PM and won't set till for another hour an a half, and the sky won't turn dark till late August. Jeff didn't you guess May sixth. -- Wild Bill, North Pole, Alaska Life is what happens to you while you're making other plans. ==== BLACKSHEEP-CHAT Mailing List ==== Creative use of your delete key is encouraged. Now back to the Ice Classic. Its located at Nenana, it's a town org. that does all the running oof it, about 60 miles south of Fairbanks. On March first they dig a trench in the Ice and raise a tripod and pour water in so it freezes solid to hold it. Then they take a rope and tie it from the tripod to a clock on shore, Some one sits in the guard shack and watches it 24/7. After they raise the tripod the tickets go on sale for $2 each. So they sell a lot of tickets if the prize is $300,000. I always buy ten chances. And when the tripod floats far enough down river it trips the clock. Most bars have them and you fill them out and return them, they have to be returned by April 5th at midnight. Yep there are some wild bets that take place. Alaskans are a free loving, independent, friendly type of individual and a lot of them spend a lot of time in bars, during the winter and I guess they get bored and like to create some excitement. And they love to gamble. There was one guy who filled a 10 gallon water jug with change and brought it to the bar and for his favorite charity he sold tickets for $5 a throw and whoever guessed the correct amount of change in the jug won it. It held some where around 3,000+ can't remeber the exact amount, but he collected almost $6,000 for charity. And the bar I frequent has a 33 board on the pro football gaames. You have to be in for all games the first game every one throws in $20 bucks and then for every game it's $10 bucks, costs $180 for the whole season. before each game they draw the name of a team each one in the gamme has a number and the drawn team for that number is the one that can win, if the total score for that teams game is 33 the first gaame prize is 300 as there are 30 teams. If no one scores 33 then the pot keeps growing till some one wins. Its so popular and fills up so fast, I have the bar owner reserve me a slot. I've hit for three years and am way ahead of the game. -- Wild Bill, North Pole, Alaska Life is what happens to you while you're making other plans.
