    3. Well, Ava, Melungeon is classified as tri-racial (part European, part Native American, part either North African or from the Turkish Plateau known as Anatolia). They were first discovered in North American during the VERY early English explorations into the interior. When discovered, they spoke a very poor version of Elizabethan English, and claimed to be "Portugee" which was Elizabethan English for "foreign", not Portuguese. The Native Americans claimed no relationship, couldn't understand their language, and their dwellings were often made of stone, and had unusual shaped windows. It has been hypothesized that they were either from the "lost colony of the English" or were put ashore from a Spanish ship of exploration, and intermarried with the Native Americans. They weren't truly black, their lips were thin, and they had a few unusual physical characteristics (which many of us have even after 4 centuries or more). For more info, you can either contact me directly, or type the word "Melungeon" into any search engine, and come up with a number of interesting sites.
