Sheeps, you would love the TV programme that I have just watched on this very wet May day! (always rains on bank holiddays here!) it was time Team, the history of Britain, it was just superb, the programme was over an hour long, with snippets of stuff they have done over the 8 years the programme has been running, they didn't do pre-historic stuff, they started with ANGLO-SAXON Britian, moved on to the NORMANS, STUARTS,TUDORS,EDWARDIANS, VICTORIANS, and ended on a programme I remember watching, and had tears in my eyes again, it ended in a field in Calais France, where they dug up a spitfire shot down on its first mission, the whole plane was retrieved, it hit the ground nose first and compacted into itself, the whole thing was less than 5 feet long! the Pilots remains were carefully, and respectfully taken away, and brought back to England for his burial by family members, inculding his sister, a very poignent moments viewing! Within the program they visited Nevis in the Caribbean, where the Pinney family from Bristol had the largest sugar plantation and "employed" 1000 slaves! they went to Maryland USA and recreated a landing jetty and sailing ship of the forefathers, and even dug up a grave in Maryland just off the jetty, one of he first English Settlers in the US!!! (DNA proven) I wish the US networks would get this series, or that it went to Discovery Channel too, I just know that you would be as rivetted as I was today! The final words of the Presenter, Tony Robinson (Baldrick of Blackadder, do you get Blackadder?) summed up the essence of the programme, he said that the programme objective was to record the history of the everyday men and women who made us the way we are today, who did nothing to be recorded specificaly in history books, but who lived and worked to shape Britain through the ages, and who toiled the land, fought the wars, marvelled at the industrial innovations, and who are our forefathers!
