As background for my statements let me rehash some of what I am and what I do. I'm sure everyone knows of my prison experiences. I learned a lot about my fellow inmates while there. I have also been an ordained minister since about 1975, have a not for profit church charter registered with the Oklahoma Secretary of State. I operate a program designed to facilitate the transition from incarceration to freedom. As part of my continuing interest in the field I receive on a monthly basis a magazine from the US Justice Department outlining the various studies, grants, ACA specs, things of that nature. A lot of the things I mention on this list come from this US Justice mag. They have done many studies on sex offenders. Its a hot topic and a field that attracts a lot of professionals. The common consensus is that there is no cure for sex offenders. Even castration does not work. Eunuchs were castrated and were still able to maintain an erection and have sex with the harem girls they were suppose to be guarding. The Justice Department did one study and came to the conclusion that a great majority of child molesters were from the Midwest and were of a certain religious persuasion. In fact, they kind of pin pointed a certain town as one producing the most child molesters per capita. When I showed that article to my mother she quit talking to me for months because she belonged to that denomination and had married three men from that town. Here in Oklahoma the prisons have an aversion therapy program. I know the man who developed the program, have known him for 30 years and in public he defends the program, but in private he has told me it does not work. His professional opinion, and he is a professional, is that death is the only cure for child molesters. In my own experiences I have never know a child molester that was remorseful for his behavior. I have not met all child molesters, so perhaps there are some who change. I would have to see them to believe it. This is the one area that I do not believe in rehabilitation in. Jack Childers in OKC
This is the one area that I do not believe in rehabilitation or they are sorry about the crime they have committed. I think they are just sorry they were caught.
