    3. It's a tough job, Terri. There are some that are really cut out for it, long term, who never tire of the kids and somehow renew their energy for it each school year. I don't know how they do it. My oldest brother has a doctorate in education and my other brother and both their wives received their master degrees in education also. Two of them have worked in the public school system and two in private schools. They seem to be holding up well, but both of my brothers moved away from the ordinary classroom situation years ago. They've all been in education in one form or another since 1967-1970. Pretty awesome, in my book. The teachers that bother me the most are those who are burned out and don't know what to do about it or how to quit, so they keep teaching and make the kids miserable too. My grandson is in kindergarten right now, and he's got one of those teachers. I asked him how school is and he said "It's a pain." Not what I expected from a little guy in his first year, when fingerpainting and show n' tell are part of the day. And teachers have tenure, so if they don't have the good sense to find something they can love doing, we can't get them to leave, even when they're ruining their students' attitude toward education. That's another problem with the system. She is retiring in June (this makes her only 51). She has been counting the days until retirement for the last five years. I am sure she is counting the hours now. The school system and the students have given her digestive bouts that seem to clear up over the summer. My sister works for the school system. She hates it but she has to hang on to receive her full pension.
