The old guy has never been married and has no children. Its just he and his ancient, bedridden mother living there, and she never gets out of the bed. That's the excuse he uses for hiring these teenage girls to do housework for him. He is too busy tending to mama to do any housework. Sounds very good indeed, except for the clause that the girls have to wear their bathing suits while doing the housework. And yes, that's just exactly why he is building the tree house, it is bait, something to lure the children in.
