    3. From: "Carol Wilson" <genealogy@cheqnet.net> I'm glad to share the recipe for "Grandma Cake". It's a tradition in my husband's family that it is made every year for Christmas. Everyone gathers together to help make it. Nothing on the recipe says how many cakes this makes, but with 14 cups of flour, I imagine it will be several. I think they stack them about 4 or 5 cakes high. Grandma Cake 14 cups flour 1 cup buttermilk 5 eggs 1 tsp salt 1 c. shortening 2 c. sugar Dried apple mix: 6 oz molasses 3 c. dried apples 4 tsp ginger 3 c. water 3 tsp baking soda 1/2 c. sugar 1 tsp baking powder 1 1/2 tsp allspice Soak dried apples in water at least 4 hours, then cook until tender before starting cake. Mix other dry ingredients together and add buttermilk and eggs. Knead dough and roll out on floured board to about 3/4 inch thick. Cut to fit in a 6-8 inch skillet and cook over high heat. Stack cakes with apple mixture between, ending with a cake on top. Let stand in refrigerator at least 2 days before serving.
