Mike and Whitewolf, There is a resturant just a few miles over the intercoastal waterway from me called the "Homestead". It is said to be haunted, and there is a grave behind it that belongs to the lady that used to own the home before it became an eating establishment. People really say it is haunted. At Mayport there is also another place they say is haunted where an old sea captain lived. One time I thought my home was built on an Indian gravesite, as I have had a pressure cooker to explode for no reason, and some strange things take place. This used to be the home of an Indian Plantation years before, and way back in the woods you can see evidence of Indian graves that are covered with oyster shells. They lived here and grew indigo. Greenfield Creek runs behind me, and no homes are back there, just the creek , land, and marsh. Spooky, but I love it. Lots of Indian artifacts have been found when digging foundations for new homes. We have a History Club and sometimes have meetings to show the artifacts that have been found. I sold a home once almost downtown with graves out the backdoor and under the shurbery. Some of them were children's graves. Mosy of the people would say, W hat is that, and leave in a hurry, I couldn't believe someone brought that house., Another time I showed someone a home that had a huge basement and part of the basement downstairs had lots of soil under the house, the woman I was showing it to ran screaming up those stairs and I never got her back in that house. I'm laughing, as I'll never forget her as long as I live. Her eyes were as large as a s saucer. . Bettye
Ooooh Bettye, that sounds really scary! I grew up with a cemetery behind my house, but it was quite a distance behind it. Sometimes I would spend the night with one of my friends who lived on the street behind us, after church and we'd take a shortcut through the cemetery, along with her brothers and sisters. It was the oldest part of the cemetery. We didn't have to be in it long and of course we either ran through it or walked really fast, but it was spooky and scary! My aunt also lived beside the cemetery where most of our relatives are buried. When we'd go to visit, my mom would send me out to get something out of the car at night and one of my cousins would hide out there somewhere and scare the daylights out of me. It would be neat to find all the artifacts though. Jin [email protected] wrote:Mike and Whitewolf, There is a resturant just a few miles over the intercoastal waterway from me called the "Homestead".
