    3. I can go one better on that one, Jan. When my Dad died, a year & a half after my mother, I was living in NE Wisconsin, 80 miles north of Milwaukee. He died on Thanksgiving day. We had suffered a blizzard the night before, but he lived in TX as did my surviving brother & one of my sisters...the other one lived in FL. Airline traffic would have been almost impossible, anyway, without the blizzard, and I MIGHT have been able to get to Milwaukee for a flight out on Monday following, but the other 3 insisted on having the funeral & burial on Sunday. I couldn't get there. When it came time to probate the will (about the only thing of value was the house), since I couldn't get to the funeral my brother & my FL sister wanted to cut me out of the estate! My youngest sister (who is very soft-spoken, nice, etc.), proceeded to tell the other two that she would sooner "torch the da*% house" than see me cut out! Needless to say, I got my share. A few years later (after the brother & sister were deceased) my youngest sister told me that my Dad had died intestate, but my brother swore an affadavit that he had a copy of the will & would probate it himself.
