    3. Jan C. It's like any other kind of mining or panning for gold, whatever. It's true that the only a small percentage of those who hunt will find the big prize. So, if you don't enjoy the hunt, you're bound to be disappointed. <g> It's similar to genealogy--you don't always find what you're looking for, but if you enjoy the detective work, it still pays off, simply being in pursuit of the goal. And you go on in the hope that a great nugget of data will fall in your lap. <g> As for Arkansas, the diamonds are found in a 'kimberlite pipe', the throat of an old volcano. This is the same situation as the diamond field in South Africa. So, you never know what you're going to find. Even in South Africa, most of the diamonds they find are quite small.
