The gas you get at the "off-brand" stations is often very poor quality. At Exxon AM/PM places, they have a higher mix of methenol (wood alcohol) in the gas, and that can also harm some engines. Even at Costco, they tell you that they sell the next-to-the-worse grade of gasoline on the market. I like my car. I'll buy what's best for it. No point in buying crap gasoline to save $300 a year and then need a new engine. BTW, here in CA about $1 of the price goes directly to gas taxes. And what the state does with it, sure isn't obvious on the roads. I have a very good fiend that has a gas station and he tells me that indepents get their gas from the same places like Exxon, Mobil, Philip 66 and so on. And most all of the automobiles will run on 87 octane. If you use it and your engine doesn't ping then you are just wasting money if you by premium gasoline. if you have a fuel injector system, then if you add a can of injector cleaner every 2,000 miles, you have the same thing as the higher price gasoline. This is something that most consumers don't know and it has been promoted by name brand gasoline refineries, just so they can charge more and reap a larger profit. I know I use nothing but the cheapest gasoline in my 89 s10 pickem up with a 4.3 v6 and the engine has 175,000 miles on it and has never had a wrench put to the engine. And I get 27 miles mpg on the open road. Also I still make trips to the lower 48 in it. -- Wild Bill, North Pole, Alaska Life is what happens to you while you're making other plans.
I love my S-10 pickup. Best pickup I have ever had.
