Shadlock, You should type this up and frame it, it will mean a lot to her now and give it to her for a birthday or Christmas present...but think of what it will mean to her in the future and her children. It has brought a tear to my eyes...it is so beautiful. I enjoy seeing parents proud of their children. In watching the news, I admire so much all branches of the military...but I hate to see them in Harms Way. But they are mature and professional, beyond their years...the teamwork is phenominal...it almost looks choreographed. Evie, Thx for sharing about your daughter and her graduation! I'm sure you're proud of her and equally sure that she will have the focus and direction that she needs. It sounds like she's already got a great start on it! Best, SueB http://www.cdbaby.com/suegilmore

Gosh , I didn't think I would be so choked up but I am so proud of her. She looks good in her uniform (tho I will never get used to how fast she consumes a meal nowadays) and she is sooooooooo glad to be out of basic. She is off to Buloxi, Mississippi at midnite. Watching them all march and swear in really brought a swelling in my heart but watching her walk off for the last time with her back straight and never looking back was almost more than I could bear. Of course I watched until she was no longer in site with her lifes review playing in my mind the entire time. When she learned to walk, when she learned to play music, when she had her first date and when she went off to college..........and everything in between those times . She will always be my baby no matter how old , but yesterday , when she walked with her back erect and her military stride, I realized I had just released a young woman into the world , and a good one too. I pray she never has to see war duty as I am sure every mom and dad there did as well. I wish they had given her time to come home before shipping out but it was not to be. I think I shall always remember what she told me. "I need to be a part of something that is bigger, that matters." "I never realized how much I loved my family until now." I can't think of any other two things she could have said to me that could have been more honoring to me or to this country. I am very proud of her and elated that she found a direction but at the same time I feel pretty low, I know that this too shall pass. I began missing her before she was ten steps away from me. Never again will I think of the Riverwalk in San Antonio without relating it to her, it is where we spent her only day off base. A mothers heart........both a blessing and a curse. Evie please pray that she have strength, focus and spiritual integrity.
Evie, thanks for sharing this glorious experience! I choked up just reading it! I know how proud you are. Sounds like you have done an excellent job as being her mother. Kudos to YOU too!! Patsy in the Golden State Wine Country

Well, you could try doing something for yurself. Off on a tangent; frivolous; take a name that brought new blood(marriage) into your own family line that you dont really care about and trace it back -- could find an interesting thing thar maybe. And it would be a vacation, and not too important to get it entirely accurate, and just a lark. Suggestion 2: using a drawing program or paint type even find a new way with charts and color to illustrate some genealogic relationship. Suggestion 3. workup a really good new but simple way to graphically show a mapof a cemetery and tie thatto apha index so folks don't have to hunt so much. Be creative. I always shut off the computer, and look at what I have yet to input, and think of what questions are yet unanswered, I hen outline on paper a list of questins to answer, and when things get slow, work on one or two. -- Jeffery Scism, IBSSG Links to my Homepages: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~scismfam/ Use the link below to join the S250 DNA project and order your DNA test. http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=L10857 "These cowards have no morals. The best thing I can do when I get that way is to put my "family stuff" aside and bury myself in something else altogether. I have a spot in the shelves on my desk where I can stack everything relating to one project or another in plain sight. After a few days or weeks I will get tired of one thing and move on to the next. Inspiration usually hits at 3 AM on a day when I have to be up to work at 5:30 AM...but you know how that goes. Somewhere in the tiny little rivulets of my mind, questions and curiosities and brickwalls hover like angry bees, waiting until some sleepless night to sting me awake with an absolute need to get something done on that part of the project. Since I have the better part of a dozen stories I am working on, I usually bang away on one of those for awhile. Two more pages of story and I start getting the urge to bury myself in the family stuff again. One of these days I may actually finish a story. =) The family stuff will never be "over." Ca! lvin B. Glad you made it Wolfie. Those attacking hearts can be most annoying...espcially if you bid spades... I am convinced that stress is the big killer. I know that it has not been kind to me and despite my less-than-healthy lifestyle, I am in fabulous health...for a man in my condition. Internal organs work like a swiss watch, no problems with heart or blood pressure or anything besides these knees that Uncle messed up for me. I try to avoid any more stress in my life than is absolutely necessary. It astounds me how worked up most people choose to get over stuff they have no power over.
