    3. Bummer. A week in Gorman one night. Well, hopefully you found your way to a restaurant or telephone to get a tow truck or something. Seems like my trips through there have been in the warmer months, not winter. It was August when we ran out of gas there. 3. Yup, Whitewolf, you got it. <g> It's a major divided freeway now, but the slope hasn't changed. And the big trucks still sit and cool off at the top, and I think the drivers take naps up there, too. lol just remembered... When we were driving back to San Fran to pack up some more stuff from the old house, my husband and I were so busy talking that we forgot to refill the gas tank, even though both of us had made a mental note that it was getting low, before we got to Newhall. Yes, we ran out about 3 miles from Gorman, heading north. We called and got 3 gallons brought to us from the station in Gorman. The most expensive gas we've ever bought, at $45. lol But, it wasn't that big a deal, I enjoyed seeing the country from outside the truck and there wasn't any time pressure. We just felt sort of silly. It's the kind of thing you tell your kids not to do. But, we were having a good time, enjoying the road trip. We had suffered a blizzard the night before, but he lived in TX as did my surviving brother & one of my sisters...the other one lived in FL. Airline traffic would have been almost impossible, anyway, without the blizzard, and I MIGHT have been able to get to Milwaukee for a flight out on Monday following, but the other 3 insisted on having the funeral & burial on Sunday. I couldn't get there. When it came time to probate the will (about the only thing of value was the house), since I couldn't get to the funeral my brother & my FL sister wanted to cut me out of the estate! My youngest sister (who is very soft-spoken, nice, etc.), proceeded to tell the other two that she would sooner "torch the da*% house" than see me cut out! Needless to say, I got my share. 3. There is a car in Seattle that has a town on it. Not just painted on but glued on mockups of houses, even the space needle. I get a laugh every time I see it. 3. My mail loads into a preview window so I can look to see who is writing to me. The average message from a list runs 2-5 mgs, so if I see a 40 mg or higher I get suspicious and see who it is from. If I don't recognize the name I delete it. Probably have missed something important doing that, but it keeps my computer safe and I get rid of a lot of junk mail without even opening it. 1. [BSChat] EXECUTION METHODS
    2. bobert
    3. Hi, Sheepers! Well, stoning was a way of execution in the Bible. And - the Romans did the crucifictions. And - drawn & quartered. Think that was done in Merry Ole England, as well. Maybe that was carried over from the Roman occupation of England. The Iron Maiden was a torture system but usually ended in death...and the Rack. I guess in the U.S.., people were really tarred and feathered, run outa town on a rail, but guess this was more of a warning than an execution. And - look back just a few years at the "execution" in Texas, wasn't it, of that Black man that was tied behind a pick-up truck and drug to his death. People can be very cruel. It is not a kindler, gentler world that we live in today - but was it ever? Shirley: bobert@i-1.net

You have to know, though, that our local news sometimes reads like the National Enquirer. <bg>

Aleta, My first car was Dad's old '55 Dodge Station Wagon. Everything the same as above but only two seats. Manual steering. I went on a couple of dates in old Barney. I usually offered to let my date drive...that usually lasted only until the first right turn. I think mine had a 283 but it had custom Red Ram headers. I used to cruise by CHP (highway patrol) like they were standing still and I never got pulled over for a ticket. They just looked at that skinny girl driving that tank and didn't believe their eyes. It may have been a gas hog but at $.33 per gallon, who cared? Loved that car. EdrieAnne IBSSG by the way it was a horrible pea green.
