Jack... I'm speaking from having raised 5 children (4 daughters)...You may not want to hear what my experience tells me, but here goes: I'd steer clear of having any problems with the mother of this little girl---I'd be very careful of taking ANYBODY's word as true (even my own, sine children are great at changing details to suit themselves)...and I'd be cautious about what's said to or about any child. If the backpack has more than school items and some lunch money, I'd be quick to change that situation. If this child is really having problems and lying on other children, it may warrent a visit with the principal and/or counselor/nurse in order to get another view---does she tell tales on other kids or only Kade? This is a real valid point to explore---if it's a lot of other kids, then there's reason to look into the child's need for help (by the school counselor or principal)...if it's only focused on one or two children, it's very likely a bit of give and take harassment from both sides (little girls can be very gossipy and vindictive). To be sure, the little girl has a lot going on at her home, but I'd not let Kade visit their home anymore...I don't know if I'd restrict the child from your daughter, but that's up to you. I believe I'd discuss it with Kade first, as she will have to deal with the child in school. And this is just one of the early molehills....keep it that way as much as you can... Okay, just a mom's view, but I'd say most parents have been there.....Good luck. Doris....A Texan in Georgia..... Still shaking the family tree and dodging the nuts after 30+ years! They have a long standing rule that they are home by the time the street lights start popping on. Come dusk they aare still not home, so I called the mother of one of the other girls to see they were at her house. She said no, but she was on her way to park to pick them up and bring them home. I said, OK, since you're going I won't bother. Dusk turned to dark, so I drove to this woman's house to see if they had forgot to call me. She said her little girl was home, she had picked her up at the park , but that Kade and the other little girl were still at the park because they had told her they were not ready to go home yet, and by the way, I should check Kade's breath because her little girl told her Kade had gotten dead drunk on beer she got from some older kids at the park. I went to the park, picked up the two girls, smelled Kade's breath, no beer, she wasn't drunk, etc. From the story I heard fro! m Kade and the other girl, they had wanted to come home with the woman and her daughter, but the other girl hadn't wanted to leave the park, was mad because her mother had come to pick her up, called Kade and friend several choice nasty names, and had lied to her mother about Kade wanting to stay at the park. The next day this nasty talking little girl, age 8, goes to school and tells everyone that Kade was drunk at the park, and told the principal to check Kade's school bag, which is jam packed with various things. The principal collars Kade, searches her backpack and find three packs of my cigarettes in it. Kade swears up and down she did not put the cigarettes in there, and since we all know our children and know when they lying, I believe Kade. The nasty talking little girl had been at our house all weekend, by the way. The way I read it, the nasty little girl put the cigarettes in the bag, in an attempt to get Kade in trouble. This little girl is very disturbed, I have commented to my adult friends several times that I didn't think the child was wired right. This is the daughter of the woman who tried to kill herself a few weeks back by jumping off her second story balcony onto a patio. Anyway, here's where I am perplexed. Why did that woman leave two 9 year old girls alone in a park after dark ? Especially after she had been told, wrongly as it turns out, that one of them was drunk and around older guys ? I was so very tempted to call the police on the woman and have her charged with child endangerment, but I already have enough problems with these neighbors who think I am over protective. I just made the decision that we don't know this woman and her daughter any more, the child will not be in my house nor will Kade go to their house any more. Some people around me are faulting me for this stance, saying I am making a mountain out of a molehill. What do you folks think ? All those legalese hold-harmless clauses in those forms to prevent the doctors from being responsible should be replaced with a simple: "We're just practicing, so it's not our fault if someone dies, loses the wrong appendage, or OD's on the wrong medicine. I think the reason people think allowing priests to marry will help, is because then there will be more people willing to be priests, allowing the church to get rid of the sick-o power hungry ones that they have now and hire healthy normal people. I think the Amazons were a real people - ancient Britain had Boadicea - all killed by the male of the species. Some would argue, I am sure, that civilizations 'back when' and 'now' are operating under the premise that, "the hand that rocks the cradle, rocks the world." Israel needs another Golda Mier; the Palestinians have the lady named Hanna whatever - at least, she seems neat, clean, and intelligence- proficient. I don't think that Arafat even knows what soap and water is: God, he is a dirty, raunchy, ugly hairy old coot! He must have condos of fleas living in his clothes and body parts. One thing he will never have to worry about: having collagen injections in his lips! Maybe one day he will OD on Viagra! Shirley: bobert@i-1.net

well - first you have to start doing something else - get the BP to drop below 120/80 by diet/exercise - see the mayo clinic website for great diet recommendations or the American heart assn. Find ideal heart rate and start exercising - there are guidelines for how to start based on your health/ age/ activity level. Walking is the best to start with. Record your exercise, diet, and BP readings weekly - then go to the DR and ask for a BP med change or reduction. If DR doesn't want to start reducing BP meds - get 2nd opinion! ----- Original Message ----- From: <HBalc27124@aol.com> To: <BLACKSHEEP-CHAT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 08, 2002 7:45 AM Subject: Re: [BSChat] Re: Meds > My husband is on Paxil and 2 different kinds of BP medicine. Right, Jan! On my mother's side I have a couple of instances of Melungeon claiming something else...My mother's maiden name was Pruitt (an Irish name)...when I asked her why her brothers & my cousins were so dark complected, she looked at me with her blue eyes and said "hush...we're Black Irish!" Didn't find out until she had been in her grave for several years the truth...Melungeon. Likewise, she had a grandmother whose maiden name was Nelson (English, right?). Wrong! My mother said "oh...she was an Indian Princess!" What a crock! On my father's side there's the Allen clan (which should have been my last name). Sounds English or French. But, the Appalachian Allen clan (mine) is Melungeon. My ggrandfather (Alfred Lewis Allen) couldn't marry my ggrandmother because he looked like a FPC (Free Person of Color), and my ggrandmother was a blue-eyed blonde of primarily German heritage. Later discovered that even that wasn't completely true...her grandmother had been a Cornett (supposedly a corruption of Canute, a Danish king of England). Cornett was probably ORIGINALLY of that derivation, but the ones in SW Virginia are another family of Melungeons! Guess I could go on and on with my own heritage, but that's enough! Just goes to show that you have to really get in there & dig. Sometimes it's even possible to interview people from other families who knew the family you're researching, and can give you a decent physical description. That combined with the part of the country is usually the only "proof" you're going to find, due to the Melungeons attempting to hide for centuries in order to avoid being discriminated against. Thank heaven racial pride has displaced the old discrimination to a large extent! Mike IBSSG > [Original Message] > From: J. I got a recipe from friends on the net, tried it and the cockroaches are slowly going away. 1 cup Crisco 1 cup sugar 8 oz. Boric Acid Enough flour to make it like pie crust dough Make into small balls and place all over the house. It is slightly greasy so don't place it on furniture, wood or any place you don't want a grease spot. Jack Childers in OKC
The car she landed on was a 2001 Honda CRV. A doctor said this was the type of thing one saw in movies, not in real life, and that the woman should consider that her stay on this earth may not be ready to be terminated and she should re-think about killing herself. This was the second attempt in three days to kill herself. The first times she tried overdosing on pills. Jack Childers in OKC

My husband is on Paxil and 2 different kinds of BP medicine. I don't agree with it, I think that is definitely overmedicating. How can you wean someone off it? Terri
Jan G. You probably are the first person I've seen to mention that allowing priests to marry will not solve the problem...I AGREE!!! This problem has nothing to do with marrying....after all, look at all the married men who are pedophiles---it's really the dumbest argument I've heard!! And women priests will not alleviate it either, as there is abuse in both genders... It's true that has been going on for many years--centuries ago there were the poor children sold to the church because they were able to sing soprano---they were horribly abused, and it didn't stop until it saw the light of day. I'm Catholic, and I've worked with children who were abused by adults (all kinds of abuse)....as far as I know, it was never perpetrated by a priest.... the whole rotten thing is an authority figure who abuses the relationship...and I guess I will have to say that I'm glad it has finally come to light---perhaps it will put an end to a cancer within the Church and in the long run heal a lot of hurts. If it does no more than force those in authority (bishops) to stop covering for and re-locating the priests in question to another "fresh market" it will be a good thing.....but I'm hoping this will cure a lot of ills. It will have nothing to do with my affiliation with the Church, but I suppose it could go both ways---maybe we should put a little responsibility on some of the parents who wouldn't pay attention to a child who was living in fear of another person. I know of a family who experienced this---the child was abused by a clergyman and the mother refused to believe him. The father did believe--the family broke apart--the son (now grown with his own family) doesn't speak to his mother, and barely to his father--both parents are all alone---and all the family members have taken sides...big problems there!!! I'm glad I wasn't involved in counseling that group! Anyway, neither married priests nor women priests is the answer to this problem....nor is the vast liberalization proposed by some groups the answer....as far as I can see it, it's a situation that can only be resolved by changing the procedures of correction and elimination of the offenders. Off the soapbox for me.... Doris....A Texan in Georgia..... Still shaking the family tree and dodging the nuts after 30+ years! IBSSG ----- Original Message ----- From: "J. I'm hoping that the Israel/Palestine thing will be settled by them alone. I don't want us involved there, if it can be avoided. I don't see any other countries coming to give military assistance to Arafat, so, maybe if we just stand back and watch, the two old "freedom fighters" --or their successors-- will find a way to put the past where it belongs and move on. The priest problem--I have no doubt it's been going on forever. And allowing them to marry won't solve the problem. Those perverts are like any other, except they're wearing a collar and have more opportunities and a better cover than most. I don't think the problem would ever have been drug out into the light of day in any other country than ours, where we're more supportive of the victims. I don't know if the church will do a good job of weeding out the bad ones. Used to be they didn't defrock anyone because it would be construed as guilt and perhaps make the church responsible. Perhaps after a few lawsuits, they'll realize that they have to do things differently. And my patience with Afganistan is growing thin. And I'm sick & tired of the Catholic Priests & sex abuse. There is no end to the old, archaic, way of thinking. I had high hopes that the human mind had risen to a higher level in 2002, but it doesn't look promising. Looks like the Middle Eastern countries are still mired-in with their old religious beliefs. In a nut-shell, I'm disappointed in the *MALE* leaders of various countries. They can never seem to get it together. Perhaps some enlightened person can set me on the straight and narrow on something. Perhaps I am too involved to have an objective opinion. Two days ago my daughter Kade went to a park with two of her friends.
