Why don't we say the same for beef & chickens, and hogs that are killed, for our food? And then there's sea-food. We humans have a basic need to eat cooked meat, fowl, fish. I think it's inherited...back to cave ancestors. Jan G. - When we lived in the hills of Connecticut...the slimy slugs invaded our decks...we could barely take a step without stepping on one. I sprinkled salt on them, and they like evaporated. I didn't care if they slugged around in the woods, but they seemed to like our house better than the woods. Jan C. -----Original Message----- From: J. Some folks love Escargot (snails) to eat. I agree. Aleta - aren't you glad your kids are grown? I sure am ! I wasn't the best Mom, probably, because I had a short fuse, and insisted my rules in the house were "etched in stone." I had never planned on being a Mom in my lifetime. It was something I didn't think about. When the Dr. told me I was *expecting* I went "Uh?" I always told my kids when they were about 10-12 yrs old, that: "God didn't give me an instruction manual when you were born, so don't expect me to understand your behavior...." And it stuck with them... Every once in awhile one of them will say: "Mom didn't have an instruction manual." Of course the creepy crawlies have a right to live. They just have to live at the right place and the eat the acceptable things. My plants are not allowed on their menu. There's plenty of other things for them to eat. In the neighbors' yards. Sent to me by my Icelandic/South African friend living in PA: Each year the Washington Post asks readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter and supply a new definition. Here are the 2001 winners: Intaxication: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with. Reintarnation: Coming back to life as a hillbilly. Foreploy: Any misrepresentation about yourself for the purpose of getting laid. [would the female version be "forecoy"?] Giraffiti: Vandalism spray-painted very, very high. Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn't get it. Inoculatte: To take coffee intravenously when you are running late. Hipatitis: Terminal coolness. Osteopornosis: A degenerate disease.( This one got extra credit) Glibido: All talk and no action. Dopeler Effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly. And, the pick of the literature: Ignoranus: A person who's both stupid and an a**hole. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp.

Have a great time, Gail. Terri
Bill, the little slimeys were eating (and thereby killing) my plants, among them succulents and my beloved roses. They love the climate here and run around all year 'round eating anything they can. Their harm far outweighs any possible good, and I can't think of any off hand. (Except the ones from France, which are delicious in garlic butter and brioche. What they do to the plants in France is their problem, not mine). I also put a systemic fertilizer and pesticide on my roses to prevent aphids, etc. They can be part of someone else's ecosystem, not mine. The bugs of this world have an edge on us humans: shear numbers, the over-powering, countless bazillions of them. I believe someday this world will be inherited by them.
