    3. When you hear news like that, it sort of make you want to get branding iron ready for them, to use as they walk through the gate--just snag them and brand them somewhere that's easy seen, like a forehead or hand. P for pervert or M for child molester. I suppose they could have their own choice in that part. I do understand that they had to let the guys go--the rule was definitely unconstitutional. And how would they know that they were telling all they could anyway? It was a stupid rule, from the get go. But, it's still a shame that those guys were getting out. I wonder if there's any hope for a "three strikes" law regarding molesters and rapists--if they're convicted of three of either, total, that they'd be elegible for the death penalty. Seems like being guilty of three means you've got a predictable lifestyle going that won't change. (And those three may be only ten percent of the true total.) Jan G. ----Original Message Follows---- From: "JACK CHILDERS" <jaxone1234@msn.com> Reply-To: BLACKSHEEP-CHAT-L@rootsweb.com To: BLACKSHEEP-CHAT-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [BSChat] SEERS Date: Sat, 18 May 2002 13:01:36 -0500 I think we on this list are seers. We talk about something and bingo, the next few days that very subject comes up in my newspapers. In todays paper there is a front page article about child molesters being released due to a court order here in OKlahoma. As part of the sex offender program in Oklahoma prisons, the one I mentioned just a few days ago, the participants were required to not only admit guilt about the crime they were currently incarcerated, but also tell all about any other crimes they had committed. If they did not tell all they lost good time, which made them stay in the prison longer. So some of them took it to court and the court ruled May 9th that such practices were unconstitutional because the men, in being required to admit all details of past crimes were in effect incriminating themselves and could have additional charges filed against them, and as we all know, our US constitution does not require anyone to incriminate themself. While I agree with the legal rational of the ruling (it was unconstitutional), the end result of the ruling is that this past Thursday and Friday they released 11 sex offenders to the streets all at once, with an additional 22 possible releases. I was surprised to find out that we have 2200 sex offenders in prison in OKlahoma. By the way, the man, a convicted sex offender, who filed the law suit was named Gary Dean Childers !!!!! He is not related to me that I know of. And then had fun working out the problem of how to get it, so close to the ceiling. I bet there were some "kodak moments" in the process. 3. Hi Mellie, good to hear you got your new car. Pretty exciting and a good positive thing. Hope you get that tooth fixed soon, sounds like you've got an exposed nerve, guessing about that. What is a Mondeo? I don't think we have that here. Our weather here in San Diego County CA: After a wonderful week of sun and 70-80 degrees F., we're overcast today with a chance of rain on Monday. We're looking forward to it, will probably do a little rain dance later <G>, the native plants will be thrilled if the raid does arrive. Everything else is being watered to keep them flowering. Mel, be watching for an email later today with attachments from me. I took pictures of the plants in our yard. It's just run amuck this year! And the pond is looking good, too. 1. Re: [BSChat] ABOUT MOVING
    2. J. Garland
    3. So, if someone paid you $400,000 to be president, you'd turn it down? <G> Look, Jack, I keep telling you to move because you've given so many good reasons why you should be unhappy there. One of the biggest is the state and city you live in--your relationship with them seems to be one similar to an abused wife who keeps going back. And you've talked about a lot of things that go on in your neighborhood that indicate it is not that best place for Kade. Just in the past week you've mentioned problems with a kid whose mom is extremely unstable and today, another kid who's a manipulative loser who plays head trips with Kade. And then you talk about wishing you had a gun to protect you from a home invasion. That's not a common problem in most towns. (A gun wouldn't help you anyway, BTW--unless you plan to keep a loaded gun handy in a drawer where a child could find it. The element of surprise doesn't allow much time for reaction.) From what you're saying, this place that has treated you so badly, kept you in prison 27 years with a too-harsh sentence, and since then tells you what jobs you can't hold and keeps trying to knock you down with a variety of challenges is the one place on earth that gives you the warm and fuzzies. So, all I can figure is harsh times must be your comfort zone. And if that's the case I guess you're living exactly as you want to. And because of that, no large money offer would tempt you. Nor any better place with fewer problems and nicer neighbors. You're living exactly as you see yourself. And if that makes you happy, then that's fine. What is found in the blood sample that is so different from other ethnic groups or racial bloodlines - is there a certain 'marker' that is present? Very curious! Shirley: bobert@i-1.net

    1. Re: [BSChat] GUNS VS DRS STATISTICS
    2. J. Garland
    3. Shirley, from what I've read in other places, those statistics are approximately correct. One that is off a bit: It's believed by studies done that as many as 300,000 people in this country die each year because of doctors, in some way, including errors in prescriptions. The difference between gun-related deaths and doctor-related deaths is that the gun deaths make the headlines. Obviously, from the numbers below, the people in the medical business aren't getting their fair share of the limelight. Part of that is due to the time it takes to determine a person's death. Partly because it's usually due to an error on the part of the doctor, not because of malice or violence, so the police aren't involved. And partly because, when a relative dies at the hands of a doctor, people don't call the newspaper, they call their lawyer. Then everyone hushes up before legal proceedings. And if it's settled out of court, as is usually the case, there's a gag clause, preventing all parties from discussing what happened, which obviously protects the medical people from allowing us potential victims to know the true risks. I look at it this way: When you consider the number of guns in this country, they are amazing safe (or I should, the gun owners/holders are surprisingly responsible and safe). On the other hand, when you look at the numbers of doctors in this country, their degree of education and experience, the number of people killed by them each year are amazingly high. As for statistics not mattering unless you're facing a gun or burying someone who was shot--keep in mind that 85% of the time, shooting victims are shot by people who know them--friends and relatives. So--who are you safer with? You family or strangers? <g> Jan G. ----Original Message Follows---- From: "bobert" <bobert@i-1.net> Reply-To: BLACKSHEEP-CHAT-L@rootsweb.com To: BLACKSHEEP-CHAT-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [BSChat] GUNS VS DRS STATISTICS Date: Fri, 17 May 2002 13:10:21 -0700 Hi, Sheepers!
