Edrie and Sheepers, I have seen on some TV specials that story about Capano. The movie, "Small Sacrifices," is often repeated. Watch it! It was very true to the facts, and the child who played the older girl was just marvelous. Tear your heart out. JoAnn, we know precisely why MSN has troubles with their e-mail, its been going on several years instead of weeks. MSN keeps altering their e-mail addresses. My subscription to BlackSheep list, and all other lists, is very address specific. For whatever reason they have, MSN changes my e-mail address and then I can't get mail delivered or sometimes sent. " I hope the child who survived has grown up okay. Wasn't she adopted by the DA?" Edrie, yes she was. Her little brother survived also, but his legs were paralyzed. Were both adopted by the DA? The movie was excellent. I agree with you - very disturbing to read that woman's attempt to kill her three children, only to get them out of the way of her romance with her married lover. I think both were adopted by the DA and his wife. I never saw the movie. Just read the book...back when my baby was just a baby. Husband read it too...made his blood boil. If I remember right the married lover really didn't want her, with or without kids..what she did was really for nothing. Did you read the one last year about Tom Capano, Delaware district attorney who murdered the secretary of the governor? That was the height of arrogance. The law didn't apply to him. I think that one was called "Never Let Her Go". EdrieAnne IBSSG My BlackSheep are small potatoes compared to these gems.
I've read quite a bit of Ann Rule, starting with "The Stranger Beside Me". That one was about Ted Bundy. "Small Sacrifices" was the most disturbing true story I ever read. That woman was so selfish and disturbed...I can't imagine anyone killing their kids in such a calculated way. I hope the child who survived has grown up okay. Wasn't she adopted by the DA? EdrieAnne
Sheepers, Some other favorites in the true crime tradition: "At Mother's Request" by Jonathan Coleman "Small Sacrifices" by Ann Rule Anyone else read those? Sheepers, For anyone interested in "true crime" books, I recently read a real winner. It is "The Adversary" by Emmanuel Carrere. Subtitle is "A True Story of Monstrous Deception." I don't want to say more, but I'd love to discuss it sometime with people who have read it. Unlike most of the people who write such stuff, this author is a real writer, and a real thinker. Try it. You'll like it. :>) Sharon IBSSG ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sue & Bobby Bates" <bsbates@netease.net> To: <BLACKSHEEP-CHAT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, May 18, 2002 2:12 PM Subject: [BSChat] Talk about BlackSheep!!!.... > For anyone interested in true crime stories, check out > http://www.crimelibrary.com/ > I discovered it by accident. You know, people say cats are not very sociable, but I think mine are. I have noticed a strange thing about them. They only seem to be active when people are around. I will be gone somewhere and when I come in the cats are all asleep. Let me be in the house for a few minutes and they are up and chasing each other around. I have tried experiments with them, coming and going on purpose, and it always seems to be the same. I come in, they are asleep, get active after I have been there a few minutes, then I leave and when I come back they are all asleep again. It seems like they need human presence in order to get up and active. Jack Childers in OKC

I think we on this list are seers. We talk about something and bingo, the next few days that very subject comes up in my newspapers. In todays paper there is a front page article about child molesters being released due to a court order here in OKlahoma. As part of the sex offender program in Oklahoma prisons, the one I mentioned just a few days ago, the participants were required to not only admit guilt about the crime they were currently incarcerated, but also tell all about any other crimes they had committed. If they did not tell all they lost good time, which made them stay in the prison longer. So some of them took it to court and the court ruled May 9th that such practices were unconstitutional because the men, in being required to admit all details of past crimes were in effect incriminating themselves and could have additional charges filed against them, and as we all know, our US constitution does not require anyone to incriminate themself. While I agree with the legal rational of the ruling (it was unconstitutional), the end result of the ruling is that this past Thursday and Friday they released 11 sex offenders to the streets all at once, with an additional 22 possible releases. I was surprised to find out that we have 2200 sex offenders in prison in OKlahoma. By the way, the man, a convicted sex offender, who filed the law suit was named Gary Dean Childers !!!!! He is not related to me that I know of. Bettye, Elizabeth Taylor had the same problem a very few years ago and is doing as well as ever. She didn't even hesitate to get her head shaved for the operation, knowing how important it is to get it handled quickly. Hair grows back. Hope all goes well. Maybe, with their sensitive ears, their sleep gets disturbed by whatever you're doing, even if you aren't being noisy, really. Cats sleep real light. Cats seem to be social with each other for play and with humans when they want something from us, be it attention or food. We've had pet rats who, like cats, are supposed to be noturnal creatures. But they get their hours all turned around to fit our schedule, just like the cats. We were only available for play in the daytime, so the rats would just sleep when we weren't around. They're very social critters. Even the mountains are out today, that's what we say when iits as clear as it is today. The Alaska range is about 120 miles south of here and are usually clouded in. As far as the mosquitoes, haven't noticed many yet and when out in the backyard with a bonfire going and citronela candles burning it keeps them at bay. So the skeeters don't bother me and I do love this time of the year in Alsaka, there is no place on earth that compares to it.
