    1. [BSChat] Jeff's House
    2. When Black Sheep started, it was plain to all who were part of it, that this was Jeff's house, online. Then it went to Roots Web. It was still Jeff's house, only larger. Then another dimension was added with the Chat, still Jeff's house. Right from the word "go" there were rules. Just as when you visit a neighbor or relative, they have rules for their house. When a person visits a house belonging to or occupied by a friend, relative or acquaintance, they behave according to the rules, or they are invited to leave. I must say, this is the way I was raised. I guess not all are, however going to school is much the same. Sure, there is room for jokes and laughter, within the rules. These rules are much the same as traffic laws. Many are common courtesy, some have to get nit-picking, for those who need them spelled out. Same when you visit. I for one am happy to be a guest in Jeff's house, online. There has been much good come from it. Many have new friendships. Many have new cousins. Some close, some distant. Some we knew before we went online and met in Jeff's house, many we met for the first time in Jeff's house. That I know of the youngest in the Black Sheep is about 3 or 4, yes, Peter, however he doesn't say much, yet. I can't wait until he does. I imagine he will show up in Chat first, just to get his feet wet. I can't see him not knowing how to be polite in his contact with others, whether face to face, or through letters, of some kind or another. The rest are adults, I know a few and there are many fine people here. There are also some fine people who don't think before they "speak." I wonder if any remember the story I told about my older sister and brother. They were arguing with each other, yelling so loud that they could not hear my Dad ask them to turn it down a bit. He asked several times, no response. Since they were literally head to head, he walked up to them and tapped their heads together, just hard enough to get their attention. They never stood head to head and yelled at each other again. They also listened to Dad, it was his house, when he spoke. They learned from their mistake, no, they didn't stop arguing, they stopped yelling so loud and started listening to what was going on around them as well. I know most of us feel this was unnecessary, I do too. However, it happened. Those who were the loudest and most persistent are gone. Jeff's house is once again a place where we can think and communicate. Do I feel bad? I feel terrible. It seems we have lost some friends through foolishness. I never wanted this to happen. I'm certain that Jeff didn't either. However to have a place to visit and communicate for so many people of such diverse backgrounds, we must have rules that all understand. Personally, I think there are some very good ones in place. So, lets wipe our feet on the welcome mat and go chat or exchange data. Tell a joke or two, more funny stories about our ancestors, fact or legend. Let's have a good time at Jeff's house. Let's make it so he wants us to return. 3. IDIOTS IN SERVICE This week, all our office phones went dead and I had to contact the telephone repair people. They promised to be out between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. When I asked if they could give me a smaller time window, the pleasant gentleman asked, "Would you like us to call you before we come?" I replied that I didn't see how he would be able to do that, since our phones weren't working. He also requested that we report future outages by email. (Does YOUR email work without a telephone line?) IDIOTS AT WORK I was signing the receipt for my credit card purchase when the clerk noticed I had never signed my name on the back of the credit card. She informed me that she couldn't complete the transaction unless the card was signed. When I asked why, she explained that it was necessary to compare the signature I had just signed on the receipt. So I signed the credit card in front of her. She carefully compared the signature to the one I had just signed on the receipt. As luck would have it, they matched. IDIOTS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD I live in a semi-rural area. We recently had a new neighbor call the local township administrative office to request the removal of the Deer Crossing sign on our road. The reason: Too many deer were being hit by cars and he didn't want them to cross there anymore. IDIOTS IN FOOD SERVICE My daughter went to a local Taco Bell and ordered a taco. She asked the person behind the counter for "minimal lettuce." He said he was sorry, but they only had iceberg. IDIOT SIGHTING #1 I was at the airport, checking in at the gate when an airport employee asked, "Has anyone put anything in your baggage without your knowledge?" To which I replied, "If it was without my knowledge, how would I know?" He smiled knowingly and nodded, "That's why we ask!" IDIOT SIGHTING #2 The stop light on the corner buzzes when it's safe to cross the street. I was crossing with an intellectually challenged coworker of mine when she asked if I knew what the buzzer was for. I explained that it signals blind people when the light is red. Appalled, she responded, "What on earth are blind people doing driving?" IDIOT SIGHTING #3 At a good-bye luncheon for an old and dear coworker who was leaving the company due to down-sizing. Our manager commented cheerfully, "This is fun. We should do this more often." Not a word was spoken. We all just looked at each other with that deer-in-the-headlights stare. IDIOT SIGHTING #4 I work with an individual who plugged her power strip back into itself and for the life of her couldn't understand why her system would not turn on. IDIOT SIGHTING #5 When my husband and I arrived at an automobile dealership to pick up our car, we were told the keys had been locked in it. We went to the service department and found a mechanic working feverishly to unlock the driver's side door. As I watched from the passenger side, I instinctively tried the door handle and discovered that it was unlocked. "Hey", I announced to the technician, "it's open!" To which he replied, "I know -I already got that side." NOW, DON'T YOU FEEL A LITTLE SMARTER?!!! A cheerful heart is good medicine...

    2. I think they consider "mainstreaming" to be instantaneous. She has been in classes that donot emphasize academic learning, but focus on daily self care. She climbed out of the swamp, and an education designed not to educate, but to let her just survive. (A really dedicated teacher helps). She was misdiagnosed, be causde of developmental delays, as being low IQ. VERY far from the truth. She just was delayed, but VERY intelligent. Now she is doing excellent in her academic work, but adjusting to things like Homework, and structured class rules is new to her. She is 7 weeks into teh second grade, and academically she is with or above her classmates. Behavior and attention are her problems. She loses her attention focus, and deviates to something "fun". 2. Three cheers for you & your family, Jeff. I know from problems my daughter has had with schools with the 2 grandsons she is raising (8 & 9 years old) that have ADHD the parents that show up at school when needed do make a difference. My daughter tries to see things from both sides of the fence but she also can tell when they just don't want to be bothered & she won't stand for it. It is a darn shame that some people don't take the time to look at things from the other persons side of the fence. If they could just try to imagine how they would feel if they were like your little girl, it might help the situation, but they seem to be to selfish & snobbish. Darn twits. Good luck, Gail in La.

    3. Cal, Some people think that you have to agree with them or you are a piece of slime. Unfortunately you found some of them here. Unfortunately, truth is not want they are interested in, it's forcing their particular view on the world. And unfortunately also, it is indicative of unhealthiness within them, not you. Your sense of humor helps us all lighten up, which all of us need. In that humor there is a lot of very special and very good insight, even when you sometimes miss the point. 2. Terri, I go back to Ohio every year or two. Always in the summer or fall never winter. I have gone back quite often in the last 5 years as my sister has had 2 cancer operations and a lot of other health problems. When she is gone I doubt if I will ever go back even though I have nieces & nephews there. They are younger than I am, they can come to see me. If my plans don't change I am moving back to Florida in September. Gail in La.
