    2. Dowsing is also known as "Witching". I am not sure about the Metal rod dowsing, but scientistsdo say there is a scientific reason why dowsing with a split willow wood twig works. It has to do with increased humidity escaping above where the underground water is. Sinvce people are reporting Metal dowsing also works, I wonder how and why. Jeffery G. 3. Hey Sue, This came at a 'great' time for me, because I quickly 'reflected' on the past weekend at the 137th Scottish Games held in Pleasanton, CA. There were over 800 musicians performing the grand finale--Amazing Grace was played at first by a lone bagpiper and then a verse played by the massed bands (35 bands plus the Marine Corps and a Scottish Military Band) and then back to the lone piper. So "Mace" not only gave me a chuckle, but revived my memories of a wonderful weekend!! If you have ever been to one of these gatherings, you will know how inspiring it is to watch the Scottish display their pride in their heritage. On Sunday they had a couple of senators as guests. One announced that the State of California is now a Clan of its own, even having its own tartan and coat of arms. This Clan was created for those who cannot find their name listed in any of the numerous Scottish Clans and who want to celebrate the weekend recognized as a "Clansman". These Pleasanton Games are the biggest in North America and is referred to as the "Granddaddy of the Games"! I have been attending them for the last 23 years and look forward to Labor Day like a child looks forward to Christmas! So thanks very much for sharing this cute joke! I can dowse for water. I can tell you where but not how far to dig. I had a good friend who was excellent at it he could tell you how far and how much. I wasn't able to do it and he said I didn't have the right charge in my body. He enabled me on how to find water, he took his metal rod and he held on one end and I the other end then we joined hands and it gave me the right charge in my body to be able to dowse for water. I can take a pair of pliers and spread it to te widest opening and with the jaws pointing up, grab the handles and walk around and when I'm over water the jaws will turn and point down. To me its eerie, no way can I prevent those jaws from turning down. 2. I wish you were there also Sue. It was a wonderful day, and meeting the Geneaolgist and distant cousins was fun. Just found out I lost a high school girlfreind last night, I called the funeral home in Georgia and no one seems to know the cause of death. Makes me wonder, if there is a reason for not saying. Doing fall cleaning yesterday and today, as I was unable to tackle the task in the spring. Bettye

    3. A mechanic who worked out of his home had a dog named Mace. Mace had a bad habit of eating all the grass in the mechanic's lawn, so the mechanic had to keep Mace inside. The grass eventually became overgrown. One day the mechanic was working on a car in his backyard and dropped his wrench, losing it in the tall grass. He couldn't find it for the life of him so he decided to call it a day. That night Mace escaped from the house and ate all the grass in the backyard. The next morning the mechanic went outside and saw his wrench glinting in the sunlight. Realizing what had happened he looked up to the heavens and proclaimed, Scroll Down (I don't think you are ready for this) "A grazing Mace, how sweet the hound that saved a wrench for me!!!"

    1. [BSChat] Bradford
    2. Mike Shuler
    3. My ex-wife was born a Bradford. She was born out of wedlock to a "woman friend" of her biological father, Dale Elwood Bradford...a direct descendant of the Gov. Bradford of note. Her biological father convinced his wife of many years that they should adopt his illegitimate daughter, which they did. A bit more than 11 years later, the young girl had the dubious honor of watching her biological father shoot her adoptive mother then turn the gun on himself & commit suicide. Dale Bradford had been mixed up with organised crime in the state of Missouri until his death in the late 1950's. From what my ex-wife's grandmother (his mother) had said, his birth father (her ex-husband) had been a true brigand in his own right, but she refused to discuss him much, since she had already been widowed by her second husband, by whom she had two very sucessful sons (one and attorney, and one a doctor). Evidently, many of the Bradford clan would have qualified as blacksheep. Sorry I can't supply more detail, but the ex-wife is the one who refused to have any of my "genealogy junk" in "her" house, so all this is from memory, and I left her over 10 years ago. Mike, IBSSG
