My astrology teacher told us that ouigi boards are very dangerous because all sorts of influences take advantage of the chance to get through. It isn't the first I heard of it, I once had a house mate insist she knew of a demon becoming active that way. I don't disbelieve in psychic phenomena, people, I just think it's healthy to have a healthy respect about when to talk about what, particularly when it involves other people, which is when people most often discuss psychic phenomena. Only if he was persecuted. Even in New York State I've never heard of anyone being proseucted for dowsing, even though it is illegal if you do it for pay. Nowadays real people don't often care about such commonplace psychic practices. But someoen who has the ability to, for example, solve crimes, or heal the sick, has an interest in people not speculating or talking about it. Unless of course they WANT their lives, and the lives of their entire families and communities, to be a zoo. These laws are more widespread than that. I found alot of discussion of the laws in New York, North Carolina and I think Minnesota. And also England. One other thing - they're also enforced. The ACLU has mounted several challenges based on arrests of people - an di in New York, professional practicers fo various psychic arts literalally structure their terms for what they do, their explanations and their activities themselves around around avoiding prosecution. In Buffalo in thte 1980's I was taught never to think we are doing fortune telling. I was taking basic and intermediate astrology. Dora --- "A. L. Geez, I couldn't give you the specific list either, though I was looking at laws that included these terms. Most often they ahve great long lists of practices that end with something along the lines of any other knid of whatever the term is they use or any other way of using other than ordinary ways of knowing things. Sometimes they are a little more specific in what they mean by that. I could research it properly, there are list of these laws areound, but I'm satisfied to know they exist and they are common. There is a private airport a hop skip and a jump away from me that most of the ultra lite fly out of in this area. They charge $60 dollars and hour to teach and I think it takes about 10 hours before your on your own. The cost of a good ultra lite is soewnere around $5, 00 or 6,000. A lot cheaper then a Cessna and $3,000 for pilot training. and $70,000 to 80, 000 for the plane. -- Wild Bill, North Pole, Alaska My reality check just bounced
I personally have no experience with ghosts, but my grandmother, daughter of my black sheep, said she remembered her aunt & uncle's farmhouse had a door between the kitchen and parlor. The door would close itself when no one was around. If someone were in either room, it would remain open. The strangest part, though, is that it would also lock itself. Figure THAT one out, with those old skeleton keys. My father, though, had the most bizarre experience of anyone I know (except those Ouija stories conjured by college friends). Back when I was about 13, my parents started looking for a bigger house (5 kids, 3 bedrooms wasn't cutting it). The realtor took them to a very nice house in a semi-rural area (close neighbors but no curb & gutter, 50 mph roads). Mom REALLY liked the house, but part way through Dad told her & the realtor that he had to get outside. Mom & the realtor finished looking thru the house, and Dad said that when he was in the hallway to the bedrooms & bath he had the strangest sensation come over him, a choking, suffocating feeling. He felt the that he just had to get out of the house, and once in the yard he felt fine. But he broke out in a sweat and grew goosebumps when he started walking toward the house again, so he waited outside. The realtor told my folks that the owners' teenage son had committed suicide in his bedroom, thus the reason for wanting to sell. He also said that other clients he had brought thru had the same reaction--wife likes the house, husband feels as though he's being suffocated. Sounds to me like the son was still there, and didn't want his parents to leave. Sue G. IBSSG
I think he had ot have been pilloried. Or atleast disgraced. Sometimes those old laws are enforced, which is part of the problem. They've been enforced in some communities an din New York State lately. Usually not. My interest in them is actually that they provide someone who DOES have psychic powers with a legitimate way out of needing to let the world in on it, which I htink is sometimes a good thing. Sometimes people with psychic powers really don't want the world in on it, and it's amazing how many other people want to decide their business for them. The issue actually came to my mind in regard to the plight of the Roswell youngsters of the TV series. Mom and Dad thought they were absolutely entitled to know and decide who else should know. The entire community would have been thrown into convulsions. The series itself explored reasons why it is often a good thing not to have such powers well known about; people are too tempted to use them in inappropriate ways. A wealthy man kidnapped Max and forces him to restore him to youth. One reason why the military wanted the kids was to use their potential. Tolkien takes up this theme too in his novels. Magic and technology are akin in their potential to be used inappropriately and to distort the natural order. This was the main concern of ancient Israelite laws against witchcraft. A number of these laws do outlaw any display of or claim to have psychic powers, and originally all such laws did. New York State sets the condition of for financial gain. One particularly silly law makes the only exception in a school or church. But a number of state and local laws that I found are all encompassing and have no exceptions. In fact the original such law in England was called an anti-witchcraft law. HACKENSACK, N.J. (Sept. 5) - The American flag that was raised by three firefighters over the wreckage of the World Trade Center, one of the most enduring images of Sept. 11, has disappeared. After it was removed from the site during cleanup, the flag was believed to have been flown on U.S. ships serving in the war in Afghanistan, then returned to New York City officials in March. But the flag that city officials preserved measures 5 feet by 8 feet. The flag the firefighters raised on Sept. 11 measured 4 feet by 6 feet, according to its original owners. ''It's just a really awkward and difficult situation,'' said Lark-Marie Anton, a spokeswoman for New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. ''What it represents is really what's important.'' Bloomberg has asked city fire officials to investigate what happened to the flag. Jeffery G. Enjoy! Lyn Dee Subject: Horse's Ass THE POWER OF A HORSE'S ASS The US standard railroad gauge (distance between the rails) is 4 feet, 8.5 inches, an exceedingly odd number. Why was that gauge used? Because that's the way they built railroads in England, and because a lot of the original equipment in the US came from England, that English standard controlled the early US railroads. Why did the English build them like that? Because the first rail lines were built by the people who built the pre-railroad tramways; and that's the gauge they used. Why did they use that particular gauge? Because the people who built the tramways used the same jigs and tools that they used for building wagons, which used the same wheel spacing. Okay! Why did the wagons have that particular odd wheel spacing? Well, if they tried to use any other spacing, the wagon wheels would break on the old, long distance roads in England, because that's the spacing of the wheel ruts in the old highway granite sets. So, who built those old rutted roads? Imperial Rome built the first long distance roads in Europe (and England) for their legions. The roads had been used since the Romans rolled through. And the ruts in the roads? Roman war chariots formed the initial ruts, which everyone else had to match for fear of destroying their wagon wheels. Since the chariots were made for (or by) Imperial Rome, they all had the same wheel spacing. And so....the United States standard railroad gauge of 4 feet, 8.5 inches is derived from the specification for an Imperial Roman war chariot, and the Imperial Roman war chariots were made just wide enough to accommodate the back ends of two war-horses. Now, let's cut to the present... The Space Shuttle, sitting on its launch pad, has two booster rockets attached to the sides of the main fuel tank. These are solid-fuel rocket boosters, or SRBs. The company that builds SRBs is in Utah. The engineers who designed the SRBs wanted to make them a bit wider, but the SRBs had to be shipped by train from the factory to the launch site. The railroad line from the factory has to run through a tunnel in the mountains around Chattanooga, TN. The SRBs had to fit through that tunnel, which, is slightly wider than the railroad track which, we can see from above, is about as wide as two horses' behinds. Thus....a major design feature of the space shuttle, what is arguably the world's most advanced transportation system, was determined two thousand years ago by a horse's ass. Which is pretty much how most governments still function today.
Elmo, At the risk of getting in trouble - may I say that you've hit the nail on the head. I tend to agree more and more with my almost 92 year old Mom - women should run the USA, just look at some of the messes that have come to light in the past few days. This is not a slam at men - I love 'em dearly!!! But I can think of a great number of things women would fix right away. Examples: Decent medical care for ALL (not shouting - just want your attention,) drug plans the Seniors could afford, food, housing - the list could go on forever - I !!! But one story was that he dowsed for a farmer and told him the water was 28 feet down and he would never run out. Well the guy couldn't afford a well driller so he did it by hand and when he got to 28 feet the water rushed in so fast he barely made it out of the hole before it was almost full and he used that well for 50 years and it never went dry.
