    2. Thanks Cal, my son-in-law drives also, and just purchased his own rig, so he can be home more often with the family, as my beautiful daughter is ill at the moment. With my help the other day, he went to Ocala, Fl and made his purchase on a rig that has been very well taken care of, and in good condition. That guy needs to be cloned, and is special to me, his wife, and two children, who sure wanted Daddy home more. Planting wildflowers again in October on Atlantic Blvd just before the intercoastal. What states do you drive in.? Keith went to Calif, Mich, Va, and all over, but was gone for over two weeks at a time. He can load containers and be home more. His father died young at 36 of a heart attack, and he has been on his own since 17. Great little guy, and loves me also. Bettye

    3. That's what I thought I vaguely remembered. That Ancestral Something was fully compatible with PAF. People on the rootsweb genealogical software lists are telling me Legacy imports PAF files without going through GEDCOM, and someone told me about a program I've never heard of he said does the same thing. Anyone have experience with Legacy? Also, someone said that Legacy interacts well with PAF specifically because it is closely tied to the Mormon church. Not that bothers me, I'm curious. Anyone know anything about it? 3. I've runinto them in the autumn, too, though having carefully read six versions (inlcuding the one you sent me and one in the library) I can't see what would be the reason for it. Last night I was mysteriously having trouble finding them at all! I might have to have my program create a listing with birth dates. I had wanted to create a small GEDCOM to send to people who have Ancestral Quest and Legacy to import and then export back to me to see what happened to the dates. 3. I'll give it a try and let you all know what happens! Six people on th eFTM tech support list told me that no only will FTM not import double dates, it won't accept them either. He said he tried one and it wouldn't work. If the default is cut off 1752? The manual alone is enough to convince me that those folks aren't geniuses. I'll see what I can do with it. Scroll down to 'Preferences' and it will give you another menu which will include 'Dates & Measures'. Click on that and you are given the options of dates in the format of Jan. 1, 2002 or 1 Jan. 2002 and an option for setting a cutoff year for double dates. It also informs me that the normal year for that is 1752. You may also edit your abbreviations for 'before', 'about' and 'in' at this location. 1. Re: [BSChat] ghosts , haunted houses & people
    2. Ilived in a haunted house in Van Nuys California. The Home was builtin teh late 1800s and was the Sheriff's home which was adjacent to the Jail. The Jail itself was long gone, but we kept finding various weapons buried in the yard, swords, old revolvers and things like that. The house was haunted by a spirit we all called "Paul". Paul would open doors and windows ( the sliding sash type) He would open the refrigerator, and dump the liquids out on the floor. Sometimes he would close a door if you asked him. Paul was with us for the 4 years we lived there, and when we moved, we missed him. There were also some "evil" spirits there, and there were spontaneous fires, and my younger brother could "see" witches in the house, that no-one else could see. When the fires occured you could walk up to them and the area aroound the fire was ice cold until you came really close, then the heat was intense. The favorite thing to burn was window curtains, we finally took them all down. The "witches" lived in a closet, in my brother's room. he says they were about 8-10 inches tall and there were three of them. He couldn't sleep at night because they were always chattering. It was a very scary experience for him. Jeffery G. 3. Missed second part of this; does Ancestral Quest import date ranges, "abt 1635", and 1636/1637? I don't think I was quite clear on this. I need the documentation to send to the people at Genealogy.com and Arts and Entertainment Channel, who own Family Tree Maker. Unlike Family Tree Maker, they cannot reasonably be expected to know all about such a detail. I know that usually one can deduce that if a date is Feb 1636/1637 the "real" year is 1637, and that if it is Nov 1636/1637 the "real" year is 1636. Or I DID know that before I learned last night that the other reason for the double dates is the change from Gregorian to modern caldendar system. So one cannot really know what the date "means" and therefore cannot transcribe it. Moreover, the dating systems confuse both people transcribing the records, and the people who recorded the records. The exact original Quaker records on my great-great grandfather show him born one year and two months after his mother died. Only logical explanaiton is that his mother died when he was born in January 1804, and not only was the date reocrded in the Quaker (Puritan) dating system in the records, but because it was the "real" new year the recorder got confused and "forgot" to write 1804. Either that or the correct Quaker date WAS the previous year, consistently with calling it month 11, it confuses anyone. I've also seen dates transcribed differently for the seame person. One person was christened same date, 1636/1637 and 1638/1639. The only thing that can be done in such a context is to record teh date exactly as I found it. Not guess what is "really" the year. 3. I have the new version. Problem isn't how the dates are set in PAF nor how PAF is exporting the dates. Actually, the dates are exactly the way I want them. I am typing them in the way they appear in mnost sources and most published local records; 3 Mar 1636/1637. Apparently it is correct to put 1636-37 but that doesn't distinguish them from an uncertain date. I write them as Puritan dates to identify them as such. If I'm not sure about a date I say so. If I have several dates I put them, to let people know there is a range of dates that may be correct. The inability of FTM to deal with the 17th century dates is particularly idiotic.
