I too descend from Jacob and Judith Moore Blackshear, through his son, Silas Malone Blackshear & Sophena Garrett's son Simeon Marshall Blackshear & Mary Elizabeth Ince. Simeon & Elizabeth's son, David Harrison Blackshear was my grandfather. I would love to have as much info as you have on Jacob's son John's line and would be glad to share my info. By the way, I lucked into a transcription of a Will of a John Moore filed in Jones Co, NC and a daughter named Judith was mentioned. If I can prove our Judith Moore was one in the same, I have a great deal of info on this John Moore's line and it's allied families, if you are interested. Faye (Blackshear) Reynolds

If you do not have it, I can give you a lot of the complete line back to 1505 in England, when the name was still Blackshaw. The book "The Blacksheariana" is now transcribed online which is the history of all Blackshaw/Blackshears from England to America. I am still in search of Louvenia Blackshear/Blacksher of Arkansas (b. Louisiana 1862, d. after 1900 but unsure where or when). Her brothers were names James and The first record that I've found, so far, is the 1880 census; she's living with two brothers (assumed), just down the road from the man (Henry Clay Conrad) she married just a few weeks after the census was taken. These are my great-grandparents and I have so very little on them. The Blackshear line seems to be the most disjointed that I research; there is very little to go on and the census takers in Arkansas often used just the first initial of a person instead of the full name (grrr!). I am thinking that this might be my family; does anyone research this line? -------------- 1870 census: Downsville P.O., Ward 5, Union Parish, Louisiana Elisa Blackshire, 45(misprint? 1870 census=28), White Female, housekeeping, b. R. D. Blackshear married his daughter Anna L. Cooper, 20 June 1897 in Alabama. My brother is compiling information on the East Texas (Sacred Harp) Musical Convention, to be printed for its 150th anniversary next year, and says this about W. M. Cooper... "Cooper is the man that revised, edited and re-released the Sacred Harp in 1902. No one has ever done much research on him. He lived in southeast Alabama in Houston County when the book was revised, and will probably be found there in the 1910 census. He is buried in Dothan (Houston Co.), though he died in Palm Beach, Florida, so may have lived there awhile. He was probably in Coffee County in 1900. His wife died in 1901 and is buried in that county. Cooper was born in Dec. of 1850, and I wrote down (from somewhere, I can't find it right now) that he may have been born in Dale County. He wouldn't be in the 1850 census, but if he could be located in 1860, that should show who his father and mother were." I have not been able to find W. M. Cooper in the 1860 or 1900 census, and I'm not 100% sure that the W. M. Cooper I found in 1870 is the correct one. Below is pasted the information that I've compiled from census records, using my brother's info as a starting point. I am aware of the fairly extensive genealogies posted on "One World Tree," but they don't have any information about the Cooper family except Anna L. Cooper. I'd appreciate any info that you have. --=======79B710AE======= Content-Type: text/plain; x-avg-checked=avg-ok-2FCF5CE0; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Does anyone else research the BLACKSHEAR surname in Arkansas? My gr-grandmother, Louvenia Blackshear (b. abt 1862 LA) m. in 1880 in Lincoln Co., AR to Henry Clay CONRAD. I believe that she had two brothers, James (b. 1854) and one with initial "B" (b. 1857). All three adult children are living in Lincoln Co., AR; they are listed as b. in LA, father b. in SC, and mother b. in AL. There is also the possibility that this family line is mulatto or black but I have no proof either way (one census record recorded them as black but later census list them as white). I believe the brothers, James and "B" (Bill, short for William?) are listed in the marriage book for Conway Co.: James B. Blackshear, 25, m. Laura Cozart, 16, on 17 Dec 1882 (Book D, page 339) W. R. Blackshear, 24, m. Mary J. Goen, 20, on 06 June 1886 (Book E, page 405) Lou and her new family also moved to this area in the early 1880s and then moved back to Lincoln Co. by 1900.
