For those of us who can use "the book" to trace back to 1505, this might not seem all that exciting, but when we started my grandmother didn't know her mothers maiden name. We have been able to trace that far back because of the WONDERFUL old photo albums that my grandmother left. Now with each person that we uncover we have a photo, a bio, and if people knew them they are able to post their own memories of that person. I am now putting up a webpage (although this just started this morning so nothing is there yet) at blackshearfamily.com If people would like their own photos/familystories/links posted at this website, please email me at brandyblack@mindspring.com While I realize we will end up with several unconnected groups of blackshears it will be a good centeral place to go to look, and could be an interesting tool to help make connections.

I've met so few Blackshaw family historians, I'd really like to communicate with you regarding your research of the Blackshaw line. My Blackshaws go back to Stoke-on-trent, England. In your records do you have: Joseph Blackshaw and Julia Mills married abt. 1850? They had at least 4 children. My great-grandfather was Wilfrid Washington (W.W.) Blackshaw, son of Joseph and Julia, yet I can't seem to find him anywhere. I have reference to Joseph and Julia's children, Sarah, Joseph, Sabina, and Evangelina - then I have reference to their children: Eva (married Jim Ware in Illinois), Sabina (m. Ernest Loveday of Wilkinsburg, PA), Joseph (doctor moved to California), Benjamin (the doctor's son also a doctor in CA), and Julia (married Benjamin Bayless lived in Chicago -no kids). Joseph's parents were probably Joseph and Hannah. I know Joseph was christened in Brierley Hill, Stafford, England on Jan 13, 1828. I know his sister, Sebina (or Sabina) was chirstened there as well. I know that Wilfrid's father was a Methodis minister. I also know that there were many methodists in Brierley Hill. Can you connect with this particular branch of Blackshaw's? Joseph (of Joseph and Julia) was born 1828. Joseph (of Joseph and Hannah) was born in 1793 in Stourbridge (got that from another genealogist). He and Hannah married in 1821 in Dudley. Thank you so much for ANYTHING you can give. I'm really driven to find where in the world Wilfred (Wilfrid) is. He got his American citizenship in 1870

Hello All, On this list are there any African - Americans looking for their family in Louisiana? Plain Dealing to be exact. And perhaps somewhere in Georgia? I am in desperate need of assistance. My Great Grandfather was brought up in Plain Dealing, LA. I have been looking for his Parents for the pass five years. No luck. His name is John Wesley Blackston/Blacksher. He was born around 1846. Many different spelling on both names. I believe his parents' names could be John Wesley and Elizabeth but am not sure. Any assistance will be appreciated. TIA. I have recently found out that I have an older brother who would have been born in 1963 or 1964. His mother's name was Florine Blackshear and she would have an older son named Daryl Blackshear. At some point she lived in Crestview, Florida. I'm not sure how to go about locating Ms. Blackshear.

Jo-Ann, have you looked at the book "Blacksheariana"? All of the Blachshear's are related and there are a lot in Arkansas of whom many have moved to Texas and Georgia. I will put you in touch with some of the Blackshear's that have done a lot and I mean a lot of research.
Recently, was in the area, and discovered that Springwood and Susina, the Raines and Blackshear plantations are still standing. I am looking for where my ancestors are buried, and suppose it to be on the "Homeplace" Does anyone have a transcription of who is buried on the plantations? Esp. Edwards Blackshear, Harriett Blackshear Raines, Lucian H. Raines, Fletcher McQueen?

Posted on: BLACKSHEAR Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/surnames/b/l/BLACKSHEAR/queries/10006 Surname: Cosart ------------------------- I have many of the Cozad lineage, they go back to France, the name has changed through the years from Cossart, Cozad & other spellings all coming from the Original one Jacques Cozart who married Lydia Willams(?),I do not as yet have dates, but in tweaking the French, it is really of Flemish or Belgium origin. I get it from a Hannah Cozad that married a John Collins, in what is now, WV, but her family came from NJ. They moved there for a while, but some of their kids came back and kept the Collins name in WV.You may E-mail me at snider_susan@hotmail.com...
Posted on: BLACKSHEAR Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/b/l/BLACKSHEAR/queries/10005 Surname: Blackshear, Conrad, Cozart ------------------------- I am searching for information on an Arkansas Blackshear family that married in Lincoln Co., Arkansas: Henry Clay Conrad and C.L. (Louvenia) Blackshear married in 1880 and J.B. Blackshear is listed in the marriage bond. I think this J.B. may be James B. Blackshear that married Laura Cozart in Conway Co., Arkansas in 1882. Does anyone have informtion on this family? The Blackshears may have been from Louisiana and *may* have been black.

I'm looking for the parents of my father's paternal grandfather. We got this information from his Confederate Pension, but no word at all on who his folks were. Apparently, he didn't talk much about his early life to his own children and grandchildren. I've found him listed in the "Compendium of The Confederate Armies" as 'James A.'. Seems that I've seen that middle initial confusion elsewhere, too, but I'm not sure where. Name: J.I. Blackshear Born: Henry County, Alabama Date: October 3, 1839 (from unknown but probably realiable family source) [Note: this birthdate is *not* contradicted by his pension form but it's not confirmed, either.] -- Julia Blackshear Kosatka Forthcoming in BLACK GATE - "Bones of the Dead" BLACK GATE: Adventures in Fantasy (first issue, November 2000) www.blackgate.com
