Blue clothcovered hardback with gold imprinting, 5-3/4x8-3/4, 156 pages. This book is done in alphabetical order by surname, then by given name in each of the two sections of the book. Really helpful for a quick finding aid. This is a new book in new book condition, but the covers do have a very, very light streak that is strictly a publishing flaw and barely noticeable. Per the publisher: > > "The first part of this work consists of an alphabetical list of tithables, or taxpayers, of Loudoun County, Virginia, one of the key counties of the Northern Neck. Covering the perior from 1758, shortly after the county was formed, until 1786, entries are keyed to the two Angelican parishes which were co-extensive with the county--Cameron Parish and (after 1771) Shelburne Parish. Thus taxpayers are listed according to the parish of their residence and the years in which they paid tithes. In all, about 10,000 taxpayers are recorded! > > Also among the annual lists of tithes for Loudoun County are lists of slaveholders and slaves, and all their names--slaves and slaveholders alike--are recorded in the second part of this work. It was the custom of the time to list only the first names of the slaves under the full names of their masters, and this is the way they are recorded here. Altogether about 6,000 slaves and slaveholders are named in this section." > > Abbett, Achison, Acker, Ackley, Acock, Acquaintance (Quaintance), Acres, Acton, Adams, damson, Addison, Adelman, Adkins, Aellert, Ager, Agee, Agleton, Agnue, Aimsley, Ahern, Airs, Akers, Albott, Aldridge, Alerast, Alexander, Aliff, Allbriton, Allbury, Allen, Allflint, Allison, Allsoe, Ambler, Amos, Anbey, Ancram, Anderson, Andrews, Annis, Ansell, Ansley, Natick, Antist, Aphoe, Arberry, Armstrong, Arnett, Arnold, Arther, Artilony, Aruegost, Arwin, Asburn, Asbury, > Ashby, Ashels, Ashford, Ashley, Ashton, Ashwell, Askren, Atchley, Athell, Athey, Atkins, Atterbury, Attest, Atthames, Aubery, Aubor, Auger, Auglet, Austell, Auton, Averit, Avery, Awbrey, Awman, Axama, Axline, Backhouse, Bagley, Bagnel, Bailey, Baker, Baldwin, Ball, Ballendine, Ballenfer, Balud, Banester, Banning, Barb(e), Barber, Barefoot, Bargs, Bargum, Barker, Barkin, Barkley, Barlow, Barmore, Barnard, Barnes, Barnett, Barr, Barrack, Barrager, Barrett, Barrier, Bartles, Bartlett, Barton, Bateman, Bates, Batterton, Battson, Bawner, Baxley, Baxter, Bayliss, Bayne, Bazel, Beach, Bealey, Beall, Beam, Beans, Bear, Beard, Beasley, Beason, Beeson, Beatlr, Beaty, Beavers, Beck, Beckman, Beckwith, Bedine, Bedwill, Beegill, Beezer, Begley, Belford, Bell, Bellsford, Belts, Belvin, Benham, Bennett, Benson, Bentley, Berger, Berkin, Berkley, Bernard, Berreger, Berry, Berryman, Berson, Bertles, Best, Bethell, Betheney, Betheri, Betholomy, Betner, Betts, Betsell, Bevel, Bewry, Bigard, Bi! > ggins, Biggs, Bingham, Binns, Binson, Bird, Birns, Bishop, Bisset, Bitzer, Black, Blackburn, Blackle, Blackledge, Blacksmith, Blackstone, Blair,Blakney, Bland, Blincoe, Blockley, Blundall, Blunk, Bodage, Bodine, Bodron, Bogess, Bogle, Bogwine Boles, Bolton, Bond, Boner, Bonham, Bonnell, Bonnitt, Bonzen, Booker, Bookout, Boon, Booram, Boorns, Booth, Border, Borick, Bossett, Boswell, Botton, Bottonfeldt, Botts, Boucher, Boulding, Bouseman, Bowditch, Bowe, Bowen, Bower, Bowie, Bowlers, Bowling, Bowman, Bown, Boxley, Boy, Boyce, Boyd, Boydston, Boyer, Boyland, Boyles, Bozel, Braddock, Braden, Bradford, Bradley, Bradshaw, Brady, Bragg, Brake, Brancor, Branham, Brannon, Branson, Brauly, Brawner, Breden, Brelsford, Bremmage, Brenner, Brent, Brewer, Brewster, Brice, Brickles, Bridges, Briggs, Bright, Brile, Brisage/Bremage/Brimng/Brimiger/Brummage, Britt, Brittle, Broadhurst, Broads, Broadwater, Brodbelt, Broger, Bronaugh, Brooke, Brooks, Broom, Brougher, Broughton, Brown, Broun, Br! > owner, Browning, Bruce, Brows, Brus, Bruff (Brutt), Brumback....more next time.
