Author: blackermel Surnames: Blacker Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.blacker/133/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My family descends from Henry Blacker and Ann Sphia Woodward. As of the 1901 census they were resident in North Petherton. There were 13 children. Rowland, William and Henry emigrated to Canada in 1907 and 1912. The remainder of the family stayed in England. They were George Thomas, John, Lucy, Mary, Lina (Lena), Jessie, Ambrose, Edwin, Edgar and Hepzibah. I have found George Thomas (wife unknown) had a son Eric George Carlton Blacker who with Violet May Bray had a son Dennis George Carlton Blacker. I have been unable to find any trace of the others. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have found my Hill connection. My GGgrandfather was Alfred Blacker Hill and I now have his father as Pascoe Grenfell Hill and have gone back several hundred years, however, I have still have found no Blacker name yet, so I don't know where the name Blacker came from. Family names seem to be repeated for generations, but not the Blacker. I guess I will find it one day. I haven't been able to trace the Edwards side either, and I guess the mystery could be within that family. I think I need to look at Cornwall. As a British Blacker (now Canadian) and knowing that the name originates either in Scandanavia from early times or is based on a trade, I am curious as to the origins of Blackers in Russia, some of whom, as I understand, are Jewish.
