Thanks for the Wm. Blackburn info. it is helpful. However, the Rev. Gideon Blackburn was not a son of this family. Gideon was a son of Robert Blackburn and Margaret Richey of Tennessee. Robert was a son of Benjamin and Mary Blackburn. I think Mr. Railey in his book on the History of Woodford Co. is responsible for starting this error. Gideon Blackburn did live and preach in KY for a time and was Pres. of Centre College . He may very well have been acquainted with the Woodford Co. Blackburns but was not related unless several generations earlier. Good hunting Miriam Blackburn

Thanks for the note about Gideon Blackburn. Both the Railey history and a more recent study by Melvin Hurst of the Fayette County Genealogical Society show Gideon as the son of Edward and Anne. They say he had a child named John Newton Blackburn who was born in Woodford County, KY and that he was active in the Presbyterian ministry in Versailles and surrounding area. I forwarded a copy of your note to Mr. Hurst, in hopes he will correct any error.
