    3. Yes, James B. Blackburn was Presbyterian, and there was an elder Samuel Blackburn (as opposed to James' son Samuel) living nearby in Rutherford Co. NC. In the Blackburn book by Frances Blackburn Hilliard there is mention of an accusation of being a Tory leveled at Samuel and also I believe, James, but it was eventually dropped. I read recently that one of the reasons people moved to NC (they also included Kentucky) was because they did not keep good public records so it was a good place for people to go who did not want to be traced.
