    1. Re: [BLKBURN] Re: Samuel Blackburn
    2. Amy, I see familiar names in your query. I have the book Blackburns Today and Yesterday by Frances Blackburn Hilliard, which begins with James and Jane Rankin Blackburn. I am trying to tie James, son of Samuel and Margaret Patterson Blackburn, as the same James and Nancy Blackburn found on the 1850, 1860 and 1870 Census in Red River County, TX. Maybe we can help each other. I am not familiar with the book as I have had it such a short time. But in a quick check of the index (Provine rather than Province) and scanning this is what I find. The third and last section of the book is entitled "The Benjamin Blackburn Family and notes on Blackburns in America" by W. A. Challacombe, Carlinville, Illinois, 1942. This is not the same family as that of James B. and Jane Rankin Blackburn. These notes mention the four Blackburn Brothers of Frederick County, VA, William, John, Benjamin and Samuel. ( this is beginning to sound like some of the other queries I have been reading from this list, I see Benjamin, Gideon, etc.) In particular, notes for this Samuel are as follows: "SAMUEL BLACKBURN, a third brother, 'married Eleanor Provine in Chester County, PA., about 1748. Her sister, Ann Provine, married Francis McCormick. They were two of the four daughters of Thomas Provine. The Blackburns sold their interest in the iron ore mining on Mulberry Run to the Provines and Morgans.' (Mr. Griffeth in Recorder's Office in Winchester, VA 1940) Samuel and Eleanor Blackburn had no children...." Samuel's will probated Oct 1776, mentions: wife Eleanor; nephew Samuel, son of brother Benjamin; nephew Benjamin, son of brother Wm.; wife's nephew Samuel McCormick; John Blackburn, son of James Blackburn. (relationship of James not given) Hope this is what you are looking for. I am still looking for the parents of James B. Let you know if they are here. Pat Lefors Dawson
