    3. Here is info I have collected on James Blackburn and Nancy Amanda; SOURCE: Joan Saario, 25102 Northrup Dr., Laguna Hills, CA 92653 Hi there !! Saw your wonderful page on Blackburns on the web....great!!! and thanks soooooo much for the info!!! However there is some parts i would like to correct.... I am decended from James Blackburn son of Samuel and Margret Patterson in your notes you said he (James) married a Sarah (unknown)?????? Well he married a Nancy A. Jones from my records.... He is shown on Red River Texas census as living with a Nancy in 1850, 1860 and 1870. Also in death records from Texas vol.1 pg. 142 of their son Isom it states on there that his mother was Nancy Jones These records are from Blanco county Texas. he was born Dec. 1839 and died 19, sept, 1917. I have their brothers and sisters names if you want them and also to present day!! Thanks for everything!! Hugs to you cousin!!!..:) SOURCE: Mrs. Geraldine E. Ballew, 14192 Tuorumne Road Spc 37, Sonora, CA 95370-9710. Her information possibly from Joan Saario, (see information above). "James Blackburn and his wife Nancy came to Red River Co., Tex. in the late 1840's as their children were all born in Tennessee, but they were in Red River Co., in time to appear in the 1850 Federal Census. Sometime during the next 10 years James purchased a farm on Wild Car Creek. The 1860 census listed only the younger children, apparently the older ones had gone their ways. One of the daughters, Roda, had married a man named Nichols, and she had returned to her parents with two children, Mary and John Nichols. I suppose her husband had died or gone his own way. Roda had married several times in her life. She had also lost one of her legs, from what reason I do not know. I know James Blackburn died about 1870-71 in Red River Co., and is probably buried there. Nancy Blackburn was listed in 1880 Denton census records in the household of her youngest daughter Louisa, who was married to William H. Owen, who was a nephew of our Gr. Grandfather Benjamin Owen. There was a lot of intermarrying with the Blackburn and Owen families. Since James Blackburn was in Texas by the late 1840's that discounts the story of the Owen & Blackburn migrating from Tennessee to Texas together. The information on Rhoda Blackburn I received from her Great grand-daughter Norma Anderson of Fort Worth, Texas. Information I have received indicates that James and Nancy were living in Missouri in 1833, but I discount this as all of their children are listed as being born in McMinn County, Tennessee with the exceptions of Martha (Merilda?) and Rebecca who were born in Bradley County, Tennessee and the last child Louisa was listed as born in Red River County, Texas in 1847, so that indicates they had migrated to Texas before 1847. Their daughter Rhoda's first marriage was to John Nichols, June 5, 1856, she had a girl, Mary Nichols and a son John Nichols, then she returned to her parents, James and Nancy. Her next marriage wsas to Jim Perry, he was shot the day one of their children was born. Later she married a Mr. Russell. One of her grand-daughters made the statement in later years that "for a woman with a wooden leg she sure got around". Poor Rhoda didn't have an easy life. Mike Smoke [email protected]
