Hi Robin, Have you checked the 1880 Census records for Platte Co. It should tell you where he was born. Sometimes if you look at two different records, they will give you different info, so think about 'where he came from' as 'lived last', as well as where he was born. Try to find him on several Census records. The Challacombe book has only one Jacob, and it is not yours. It is not a common name for Blackburns, obviously, at least early on. About what year was he born? You will need to know if you look at the Civil War records to know if it is your man or not.
