<<Kay, Here is something else to add to the stew. Mrs. J.R. Gibson(surely a coincidence!) of Athens, Texas in 1939 wrote to Mr. Challacombe: "John Blackburn, who married Jemina Boulton in 1805; parents of 1. Salanthie, 2. James, 3. robert, 4 William, 5. Thomas, 6. Luther Green, 7 Sterling, 8 John Ashley, 9 a sister ,10.Jemina. " " James, robert & Will went to Ohio; Luther Green lived in Springfield, Mo ..." Patty Dahm Pascoe in her book BLACKBURN FAMILY traces the descendants of John Ashley Blackburn, which includes Mrs. Gibson, but does not follow the others. John and Jemina lived in Claiborne Co, TN Miriam>> I've been plugging away on this family. If it's not mine, well then, I will save someone else a lot of work. Three days at Salt Lake City and 2 in TN haven't turned up much. But here is what I have so far: John BLACKBURN was b. c. 1765-1784. I'm not sure where he was born, I really hope it's NC. He m. c. 18 Dec 1805 (bond date, not marriage date) in Grainger Co, TN to Jemima BOULTON (the Boulter is misspelled. I tie into this Bolton line twice, I think). She was the daughter of Thomas BOULTON, Sr. & Jemima HAMMACK. She was b. c. 1784-90 (1810 TN Census--yes, it exists only for Grainger Co. The only co. that survived the E. TN loss). She was b. in VA. Their kids: (This disputes Mrs. J.R. Gibson, above) 1. Salathial/Salanthie b. c. 1807 (1810, 1850 Censuses) m. the 3rd, 6th, or 8th of Jan 1829 Knox Co TN to Elizabeth MITCHELL (b. 1809) 2. Thomas b. 1808 (1810, 1850 Censuses), I think maybe he m. Polly MOULDER 11 Apr 1827 in Grainger Co, TN. There seems to be more than one Thomas running around, so I am not sure if I have the right Thomas here. 3. Either James, Robert or Sterling go here (I hope) (1810 Census). A little more on them below. 4. John Ashley b. 12 Mar 1812, was in the Company A 12th TN Calvery (I have a question mark by this and can't find my reference at the moment); m. 12 Oct 1832 Grainger Co TN to Anna/Annie COLVIN, he d. 11 Oct 1875. He and his descendents are well documented. 5. William. IF (giant if there) this one is mine (I'm working on process of elimation here) then he was b. 11 May 1814, Grainger Co TN. m. 12 May 1843 Franklin Co IN (right across the border from Butler Co, OH, and I mean right over the state line) to Susan(nah) BOULTON (who was probably his 1st cousin; I have lots on her); he d. 24 Oct. 1888, in Oregon (a town), Holt Co MO (another one who wound up in MO). 6. This isn't the 6th child, but the 6th one I can place a date on. Jemima b. c. 1824 (1850 Census). She was in her brother Sterling's will. 7. Again, the 7th one I can place a date on: Luther Green (apparently he went by Green) b. c. 1826. I looked for him in Springfield, MO. The closest thing I could find was a Green in Warwick, MO (1880) who said that he was b. TN, father b. NC, mom b. AL. Below him is an Issac, age 62, who says the same thing. James & Robert who went to OH with William: I've searched every James, Robert, and William in 1840 in OH. I looked for 3 males together and didn't see that. So if they went to OH, they may have gone with wives and Mrs. JR Gibson didnt' report that. Or perhaps they went a little further to IN. All I know is this: William was in Franklin Co IN on or before Aug 1840 as Susan(nah) (his future wife) has her first child May 1841. Census day in 1840 was June 1st. Hmmmm. Sterling: I have no birth info on him. I was hoping to get his exact death date while I was in TN but was unable to do so (too much to do in too little time). I know that he d. between 7 Aug 1847 and 1 or 3 July 1848 in Grainger Co, TN. He was in the US Army. He did have a will and it has been posted here before. I cannot find any info on the other girl. She may have died young. While in TN, at the E. TN Historical Society's Mc Clung collection, I saw the W.A. Challacombe book. It said that it was $16.50 + $1.50 to Anna B. McSpadden, Rt 1 Box 44, Maryville, TN 37801 (615)983-1078. I'm pretty sure that the area code is a clue. Maryville is in Blount Co which is in E TN. E. TN is now area code 423. OK, but who is Anna B. McSpadden???? If anyone can shed any light on these kids of John & Jemima (Bolton) Blackburn, please let me know. Cheri Mello Torrance, CA
