    1. [BLKBURN] Blackburns in Utah
    2. I too have Utah Blackburn connections, but have not worked exclusively with the 1880 census figuring out who is who. There are several lines of Mormon Blackburns I have learned about. Your line, by the way, were Mormons because Jehu Blackburn was. There are those of the Jehu Blackburn line, which are pretty numerous. His father was from the east. You said Pennsylvania, but I didn't remember where. I just know he is not in my line. Then there is that of a Parley Pratt Blackburn, whose descendants are mostly in Idaho. His line also ties in with a Dewey Earl Blackburn, somewhere. Mostly in Utah and Idaho. There was a line of southern Blackburns, I think, who joined the church. Not familiar with them though. Just have learned OF them. There are three main bodies of Blackburns---those from Ireland, Scotland and Lancashire England. A lot of people feel that all the lines stem from Lancashire (myself included) though I think the Irish Blackburns trace further back than most Lancashire Blackburn lines. While the Blackburns have been in Lancashire for some time, the Blackburns in the 1600's records are a bit sketchy. I do not know if anyone with Blackburns of Lancashire have traced their lines back to the 1600's---while I think the Irish Blackburns have. My line? Stems from Eccles, Lancashire, England. Samuel Blackburn, b. 1827 joined the church. He and his wife Sarah Susannah had 9 children, 5 of which went west with the Mormons---of those 5, only 4 have descendants who stayed with the church. (And one of the remaining 4 died young, his children changing their name entirely... ) I do not remember if any of my Blackburns are in Utah in 1880. They were there in later years but were not there in 1880 if I remember correctly. There are pockets of Blackburns though. You'll find that out. I have found small pockets in Provo, Rexburg Idaho, Idaho Falls, Ogden, etc. You will find that by looking for anyone of the Blackburn surname in these pockets, you'll likely find relatives. For example--I ordered all sorts of obituaries for Blackburns from Idaho Falls. About 65% were mine. The others? They tied in with a few smaller pockets in the area. Some lived in the Idaho Falls area for only a short time. A few I have yet to link to any of the Mormon Blackburn lines I know of (about 99% of the obituaries were for Mormon Blackburns, I might add.) You should search the BYU Catalog. Go to the BYU Family History Center in Provo and look through their library. I found a few listings for Jehu Blackburn in an index. I do not know what they were for, but I come across your line quite a bit while looking at compiled record indexes. You're lucky--your line is more common than mine. Bradley p.s. Bob, I do not know very much about your line, but if you email me some of your Blackburn family names I can sort through the Idaho Falls obituaries who are not related to me. I have them linked by family. If you recognize any names, you can have them free of charge. These obitaries are from 1917-2000, but if you give me some common names to look for i may find some of your cousins' ---
