Here's one of the NC Genweb sites that has several Blackburn researches listed that I'm sure you will find most helpful in checking to see if your ancestors were in Wilkes County. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncwilkes/surnames/wilkb.html I have the two volumes of Genealogical Books publish by the Wilkes County Genealogical Society that I will check to see if I can find any information on Allen. Feel free to email me with any questions on my Blackburns and I'll do my best to help.Good hunting, Don

Surnames: Blackburn Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SNE.2ACIB/1278 Message Board Post: Don, do you have a website with all your findings. What info can you give me on the G3 William that maybe father to Allen. Have you found any info on Allen in Wilkes Co., I can find nothing on an Allen. Another thing, I found a deed where a William Blackburn and John Loftin bought property from Benjamin Harris all three from Edgefield SC, but the property was located in Habersham County. When I go to census in Edgefield, there is Elias and a William, but this William would have been too old for my William, thought he might possibly be William Allen??????On 1840 census is the only one that I can find William and Allen, 1850 both, if Allen is Williams father, both had died. There are other Blackburns, Jesse, Nancy, Nathan but they lived in a different district. Also by 1850 they were gone also. Don't know if they could be brothers and sister. Does any of these names ring a bell with you? Thanks for trying to help. You are one of two people that I have been able to co! ntact that are searching Blackburns. Hope to hear from you soon. Kathy

Surnames: Blackburn, Caudill, Soots, Felts, Henderson, McDowell Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/SNE.2ACIB/1266.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Kathy, I was told by Samuel Sebastian, now deceased, that he thought that Allen Blackburn was possibly the son of our G3 Grandfather William Blackburn and Sally Blackburn but never was able to prove it. Sam researched our Blackburn family for more than 40 years both here in Wilkes and anywhere else he could go chasing down leads on our family. G3 William was born in Va. in about 1764. He shows up in Wilkes County, NC before 1788 when my G2 Grandfather John Blackburn was born. William remained here ins Wilkes until his death sometime after the 1850 census. The Wilkes County Genealogical Society has quite a few records on the early settlers of Wilkes County which was one of the first places settled while we were still under English rule. I know that some of the early members of our family went to Indiania, Tennessee, Texas and probably a lot of places that I haven't read about. We seem to be part of an extremely large family that were among the early settlers of the Sout! h both before and after we became a nation. Sorry I don't have any information on your specific Blackburn. You could also try New River Notes on the net which did have some Blackburn information. Best regards, Don Blackburn

I was told by my grandfather that the Blackburns came here from N.C. One brother supposedly went to Tenn and the other out west. William Blackburn married Emaline Grant in 1838. I think his father may have been Allen and mother Anne, don't know for sure. They were here in 1840 no Blackburns before. Allen died before 1850 and so did William. William had 3 children, Simpson Kimzey, Perry Suggs, and Mandevine. Simpson was the only one to have children. If you can help, I would appreciate anything.

I don't suppose you have collected any on Ephraim Blackburn who married Eliza Bridges have you? I don't have a firm date on him, but a brother Samuel is supposed to be l745-l8l6 if that gives you a general time idea. Other sibs could be James, Robert, and Mary who married Moses Bridges.
