    3. Thanks Linda, Sometimes I just do something without thinking of letting everyone know I did what was requested. I did unsubscribe Tina as soon I had received her message. I don't think to mention it unless I check the mail and have several "GET ME OFF THIS LIST" messages. I do appreciate the help. 1. [BLKBURN] Blackburn web site...
    2. KGS
    3. Indeed it is a very nice site. The problem is, it's not my line. The web site I had in mind would be more of one, where we all share our lines, our research, eg: if you have read the film for the 1850 census of Alabama, then I could spend my time looking elsewhere for the surname BLACKBURN. We most certainly want to look where we think "our" Blackburn's might be but, while searching for ours, we often find other Blackburn records, that we could share with others who might be looking for just that line. I'm not promoting doing a web site for Blackburn research, it can be a big job. I just thought if the list members think it's a good idea and are willing to share what they have I am willing to put it online. kay Kay Griffin Snow I don't just believe in miracles. I rely on them. *********** There is an existing BLACKBURN web site at: http://www.blackburn-tree.org/bfa.htm

    3. Yes, James B. Blackburn was Presbyterian, and there was an elder Samuel Blackburn (as opposed to James' son Samuel) living nearby in Rutherford Co. NC. In the Blackburn book by Frances Blackburn Hilliard there is mention of an accusation of being a Tory leveled at Samuel and also I believe, James, but it was eventually dropped. I read recently that one of the reasons people moved to NC (they also included Kentucky) was because they did not keep good public records so it was a good place for people to go who did not want to be traced. Blackburn's relationship to the Benjamin/Mary line- don't give it up. There are several loose ends with those old guys and unaccounted children, etc.James B. seems to have had a brother named Samuel who stayed in NC and I think there may have been another brother. The characteristics of the two lines are quite similar-naming patterns, relatives in common and apparently religion. I believe James B. and family were Presbyterians as were the Benjamin line. This is significant as several of the most prominent Blackburn lines in NC were Methodists. Of course, religion changed on the frontier depending on the availability of churches. Good luck hunting. 3. Barbara Your post of 21 January was not ignored. In fact, I couldn't believe what I was reading. To answer your questions, I do not have an exact dob of my Benjamin Blackburn. What I have is ca. 1798, due to his age on the 1850 Monroe Co. IN census (52) and the Brown Co. IN census of 1860, where he is shown as being 62 years old. So your date of 6/7/1798 is probably correct. The same with his place of birth, all I have is from the census that he was born in KY and I have not a clue as to where he died, only that they disappeared from the IN census before 1870. Only recently did I begin to wonder if they returned to KY, as I have followed three of their children to other states and found no trace of Benj. & Mary. The date of their marriage was found in two records from Nicholas Co., one giving the date as 10 Dec. 1819, the other was 16 Dec. 1819. Mary Hartley's dob is in question due to inconsistency in her age in census records. A book about her Father, Thomas Hartley of VA > Nicholas Co. gives the year of her birth as 1789, Berkely Co. VA. The daughter of Benjamin & Mary, Hannah, was my ggrandmother. Her death certificate says she was born "near Jacksonville, KY 21 Oct. 1828. There was a Jacksonville in Bourbon Co. at that time near Paris. To sum it up, I feel sure the information you have in your old file is that of my branch, and I am excited. Please e-mail me at [email protected] and we will go into this further. Thank you so much for your post. Keith
