    3. Under usual circumstances I don't approve of roll calls. Let me explain, most of the time when a "roll" is called, most of the posts are just a surname. So far you guys are doing great! Please keep adding dates and places and not just your surnames, and maybe this roll call will be one that breaks the rules and accomplishes something. If only one clue is turned up then it is a truly worth while exercise. My sad story follows: BLACKBURN, William: born 1824, I'm guessing either TN or VA. 1860: living in Washington Co., AR 1870: Living in Lawrence Co., MO md: Sabra WATSON ca 1846 place unknown Children: Nancy Elizabeth md Wm. 3. List members, I have to tell you what I am trying to research in order that it will make sense. My grandfather William Cleveland Blackburn was a descendant of Thomas who purchased land in Floyd Co, KY in 1809 and is listed in the 1810 census. My direct lineage is Thomas, Thomas, Jr; Harmon, James Cobb, William Cleveland, and Hazel (My mother). There is a lot of data available on the descendants of Thomas. However, proving his who his ancestor were, is a problem. Family tradition has it that a group moved together around 1806 from the VA-NC area and settled in the Floyd Co area (Pike Co was later created out of Floyd Co.). The 1810 Floyd Co. census indicates that there were several families living in close proximity to each other with the surnames of Blackburn (Thomas and William), Akers (Solomon and Valentine), Brown (John, John Jr., James and Thomas), and Branham (John, Wm, Edmond, Turner, and David). All of the Branhams are known to be a part of the family of Valentine Akers' wife Frances Branham. As noted above, my objective is to connect Thomas Blackburn of Floyd Co (Later Pike Co.) to his ancestors and kin. The 1810 and later censuses show that he and all of his children were born in VA. The last child (Delia) was born in 1803. Presently I am trying to determine if Thomas Blackburn of Floyd Co. KY was the son of Lambeth Tye Blackburn of Buckingham Co., VA. I have been unable to locate a will or other document to show it directly. Thus I am trying to show the connection indirectly through the Blackburn family's relationships with other families. The relevant part ( i. e. I have left out a lot of individuals that don't need to be considered for the issue being investigated) of Lambeth Tye Blackburn's ancestry as it relates his kinship to the Tyes, Akers, Branhams, and possibly the Browns and Hudsons is as follows: 1. John¹ Blackburn 2. William¹ Blackburn + Elizabeth Tye (ca 1680 - ?)(Daughter of Lambeth Tye) 3. John² Blackburn, b: ca 1710, d: 1757 + Elizabeth In his will which was prepared in 1757 and is recorded in Cumberland Co., VA; John2 leaves; (1)400 acres of land on Fighting Creek in Cumberland Co., to his son William. (2) One half of the old plantation in Albmarle Co., to his son James. (3)The other half of the land in Albemarle Co., to his Grandson Solomon Akers with a life estate reserved for his son in law, Blackburn Akers. (4) To his brother, Lambuthie 250 acres adjacent to land Lambeth owned in Albemarle Co., reserving the timber rights to his son James and his heirs. A portion of Albemarle County was taken to form Buckingham Co. in 1761. 4. William3 Blackburn 4. James Blackburn 4. Daughter + Blackburn Akers ( Son of Suzannah Blackburn, below.) 3. Susannah Blackburn, b: 1712, d: 1808 + William³ Akers 4. Blackburn Akers, b: bef 1740, d: 1786 + ? Blackburn (Daughter of John2 Blackburn above) 5. Solomon Akers b: +Lorton 5. Valentine Akers b: + Frances Branham b: Daughter of David Branham and Frances Baskett 6.Thomas Blackburn Akers b: 1805 in VA d; 1888 Floyd Co. KY +Keziah Meade (1) Elizabeth Baldridge (2) 5. Blackburn Akers, Jr. +Suzanna Skaggs(1) Elinor Howard(2) 5. Augustine Akers + Rhoda Thompson 4. William4 Akers b: ca 1730 + Mary Polly Blackburn ( Daughter of William2 Blackburn, below) 5.Blackburn Akers b: ca 1768 + Elizabeth Leseur 5. John Akers b:8 Nov 1771 + Sarah Brown 6 Hudson Akers b: 1800 Lived in Franklin Co., VA + Nancy ? 3. William² Blackburn, b: 1707, d: ca 1754 +(Elizabeth Radford?), b: ca 1726 in Henrico, VA 4. Mary "Polly" Blackburn, b: ca 1740, d: 1830 + William4 Akers, (1737-1834) 3. Elizabeth Blackburn, b: ca 1710, d: 1754 + John Mossum (1707-1754) 3. Lambeth Tye Blackburn, b: ca 1710, d: ca 1775 + Mary Lambeth Tye Blackburn paid a Tithe Tax for Thomas, Jacob and a third Person (William ?)in Buckingham Co. VA in 1773. Thomas paid the tax as an individual in 1774. 4.Thomas Blackburn b: ca 1755(Based on tithe Tax & over 45 in 1810 census) + Mary (Brown?) Thomas and Mary signed a realty document in Patrick County VA in 1800 stating they were from Campbell Co, VA. Thomas acknowledged he was the father of Sally when she married Azeriah Denny in Patrick Co, in 1801. Patrick Co., VA was adjacent To Montgomery Co in 1800 which was the County in which Thomas' brother(?) Jacob Blackburn and his cousins Valentine and Solomon Akers lived from approximately 1782 to 1805. Valentine Akers' son Thomas Blackburn Akers was born in VA in 1805. Thus based on: a. Thomas' age as estimated from records in VA and Censuses made in KY, b. the pattern of the involved families, including Thomas Blackburn, living in close proximity (in Buckingham - Campbell Cos., and Montgomery-Patrick Cos. areas in VA and the Floyd Co. area on KY) to each other before and after they moved, c. and Valentine Akers naming his son Thomas Blackburn Akers during the time of the move; There appears to be support for concluding that Thomas Blackburn of Floyd Co., KY is the same person as the Thomas Blackburn recognized as the son of Lambeth Tye Blackburn of Buckingham Co. VA. 5. Hudson Blackburn b: ca 1795 in VA according to censuses It is recognized that the above gives rise to numerous questions. The questions which I am most interested in concerns the surnames of Hudson and Brown. Thomas Blackburn and John Akers both named sons, who were born within 5+/- years of each other, Hudson. Since John Akers wife's maiden name was Sarah Brown, if Hudson was a family name, it might be her Mother's maiden name. We do not know Thomas' wife Mary's maiden name. Could she be Sarah Brown's sister and they both elected to use the family surname of Hudson for their sons? There are 4 Brown families listed as living in close proximity to the Blackburns, Akers, and Branhams (In laws of Valentine Akers.) in earlier VA and the 1810 Floyd Co. censuses. Is this a coincident or does it provide us our next lead to check about in order to tie the Thomas Blackburn family of Floyd Co., KY to the John Akers family of Franklin and Patrick Co., VA and Gwinnett Co., GA? Perhaps the answer to the question is in the Data accumulated by the Brown and/or Hudson families? Additionally. a comparison of the naming pattern of the family of Thomas Blackburn of VA and KY with the family of William Blackburn of Wilkes Co., NC as shown on http://web.infoave.net/~dblackburn/family.htm , indicates There may be a relationship between the Blackburns of KY and NC. Any help in investigating this relationship will be appreciated. For a more complete listing of the Blackburn, Akers, and Branham family genealogy see , http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Flats/3406/contents.html or post requests in this forum. Hope this will be helpful. If you find anything to support or question the information please contact me as I am very interested in Thomas and Williams' Ancestry [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: "Schafer" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, February 05, 2000 12:44 PM Subject: [BLKBURN] Blackburn Research Roll Call > Hi, I think its time that we listed our Blackburn names & locals we're researching. 3. Beverly, I was speaking of the earlier Blackburns. There is a short article on your Thomas in the book, Floyd County, Kentucky History, copyright 1992 by the Bicentennial Committee of Prestonburg, KY. The ISBN # is 1-56311-073-3. If you can not or do not want to access a copy at your local library, send me a snail mail address and I will copy this copy I have (not the book, the article). My line comes down from Edmond's son, Levi. It would have made things lots less confusing if they had not named their sons after their brothers and fathers!!! Keep in touch. 1. [BLKBURN] John W.P. Blackburn-b. 1869, AL
    2. Mrs. Sam Burt
    3. John W.P. Blackburn was the son of Thomas N. Blackburn, grandson of Rev. William Baxter Blackburn & Olivia Malissa Crump, great-grandson of Joel Blackburn & Anna Fry, & great-great-grandson of James A. Blackburn. All that is known about John is that he was born in October of 1869 in Alabama - he received an inheritance from his grandfather's estate in 1885. Little is known about Thomas other than his birth in 1846 in Blount Co., AL - he did serve in the CSA. I'd love to know more about Thomas & John, in addition to descendants. Suzy B.
