Do you list a Hudson Blackburn b. 1795 Son of Thomas Blackburn ? Hudson possibly had two brothers: Thomas Jr. and William. I don't have much information to offer on ancestory, but quite a bit on the decendants of Hudson. ** Mary Cleghorn, your e-mail address doesn't work. Susan

is Edward Related To Richard And Thomas From Ripon Lodge Va? Mary
Rodger, I have a couple of corrections. Basically it appears that various unrelated Blackburns have been combined to make a family. 1. John I can't speak to this as there are several theories about John being the sire of different lines. 2. Benjamine m. Rosannah Steele . This probably should be Benjamin and Mary--? who were the parents of Archibald Blackburn b 1851 who m. Rosannah Steele. It is believed this Benjamin immigrated from Ireland between 1720-40. Some believe he was a son of John of Isle of Wight VA. so far no proof. 3. Lt. Wm. Blackburn/Elizabeth Black had only daughters as named in his will. He was killed at the Battle of King's Mountain. The father of Lt. Wm Blackburn was also William Blackburn (stated in a survey document which named Wm., George, and Arthur as sons of Wm. I think this Wm. was probably the son of Archibald and Margaret (Wilson?) who were born in Ireland. Lt. Wm. was definitely not a son of Benjamin 4.Thomas Blackburn(1742) who m. Christian Scott was a son of Col. Richard Blackburn of Rippon Lodge in VA Col. Thomas Blackburn had sons Richard Scott Blackburn (1760-1804 m Judith Ball; Thomas Blackburn b 1765 - no further info. The Blackburn women who married into the Washington family are from this line. 5. Hutson(Hudson) Blackburn is a son of a different Thomas Blackburn than the one above. I don't have info. on who his father was- I believe it is still in question. Some of the Pike/Floyd co. researchers will have to verify the rest. Good hunting M. Blackburn
I am researching (loosely applied term) the Blackburns as they are a branch of my wife's ancestors. Almost all the information I have was found on the internet or supplied by the good people I have met here. I thought maybe I could give something back by responding to the roll call for Blackburns, in particular the family of Vata Lou (Blackburn) and Columbus Whitt. What appears to be the accepted line for my wife's Blackburns follows. Any corrections greatly appreciated. I posted this earlier, but maybe someone missed it and can add to my findings. Thanks Linda Blackburn Family of Ashe, Watauga and Wilkes County North Carolina Benjamin Blackburn, a clergyman, came to this country in 1774 from Scotland. He first settled in the Halifax District of North Carolina before moving on to the Deep Gap Section of Ashe County. He married Elizabeth Adkerson and they were the parents of four children. Many of their descendants were instrumental in establishing the Methodist Church in the Blue Ridge Mountain area of North Carolina. Benjamin died between 1800 and 1804. Elizabeth's will can be found at the Ashe County, North Carolina Courthouse in Jefferson, North Carolina (Book A, Page 39, dated September 27, 1804/1814). (Will has been read by several that think the date is 1814. It is possibly 1804. My Blackburn interests primarily focus on Scotland and Canada, although one branch did eventually move to the U.S. Andrew Blackburn (1770-1855), and his wife Isabella (nee Lennox, 1775-1860) emigrated from the Kilbarchan Parish area (Renfrewshire) Scotland to the Ottawa Valley area of Quebec, Canada, in 1829. It is believed that all of his children came over between 1829 and 1842. Andrew's ancestors - parent's were Robert Blackburn & Jane Arthur (of Kilbarchan, married abt. 1755) - grandparents were Robert Blackburn (b. abt. 1698) & Agnes Blair (married about 1722/1723) Andrew's children included - James Blackburn (1799-1851) m. Elizabeth Campbell of Glasgow (1802-1875); Robert Blackburn (1797-1874) m. Robina Buchan of Cambuslang, Scotland (descendants of this branch exist in several states but majority were in Wisconsin); John Blackburn m. Ellen Smith; Andrew Blackburn (1834-1930); David Blackburn (1815-1899) m. Catherine Davis; Isabella Blackburn. I am a descendant of James and am interested in ANY Blackburn info related to any of the above, their ancestors, descendants, or siblings. Thanks... Bob Blackburn
