Excuse the interruption! I am way behind on reading the messages on this list, so I may later find this has been answered. But just in case: From Two different sources on the Immigrants/Emigrants, Benjamin's residence was London. New World Immigrants Vol. II "Benjamin Blackburn, 28, Clergyman, London (former residence) to port Carolina, go to Carolina to settle there? The Complete Book of Emigrants 1751-1779 "Benjamin Blackburn of London, clergyman, aged 28 to settle there" I realize neither of those says he was born in London, so he could have come to London for schooling??? I have not been able to verify he came from Scotland. So, ditto, Help! Pat ----- Original Message ----- From: Beverly J. John Lewis and Matilda Blackburn Bowman are found on the Benton/Calhoun County, Alabama census for 1840 and 1850. By 1860, they are found living on the Brazos/Robertson county, Texas line, near Wheelock and Benchley. This area was originally settled in the 1830s by the Robertson Colony. There are many Bowmans, Blackburns, Henrys, Seales, and Reeds in this Brazos/Robertson area about 1850. Matilda and John moved after 1860 to Falls/McLennan county area and are buried in Eddy, Texas, near Waco. Betsy Davis
I NEED HELP. MY FAMILY LINE IS TWO PEOPLE. I HAVE SEARCHED THIS FOR MONTHS. MY GRAND MOTHER IS CLARA BELLE BLACKBURN. BORN 1876 IN SCREVEN GEORGIA. HER FATHER WAS ROBERT RANDOLF BLACKBURN BORN 1860 IN BULLOCH COUNTY GEORGIA. DIED IN 1955 IN SAVANNAH GEORGIA. THIS IS AS FAR AS I CAN GET. IF SOMEONE KNOWS OF ROBERT AND HIS LINE IT WOULD BE A GREAT HELP. THANK YOU MARCY GILL
Zelda, Re:connection of Archibald Blackburn and Benjamin Blackburn. So far there is no established connection except that they lived quite near each other in VA and had the same last name. Also Benjamin did name his youngest son Archibald-possibly just a coincidence. It appears that Archibald Blackburn ,the elder, was probably a generation older than Benjamin but that doesn't help much in identifying a relationship. M. Blackburn
Trying to find descendants of Benjamin Blackburn(Jr.) b 1738- d1834,of Tuscaloosa, AL. He was the eldest son of Benjamin/Mary Blackburn(Sr) of E TN. He settled in the early 1800's in AL and d. 1834. Benjamin,Jr. had children: 1.Mary who m. Davis and lived near Columbus,MS. She was pre-deceased by all her descendants. 2. Jane Wallace lived in Lawrence Co. AL some descendants still living in the area. 3 Sarah(Sally) m Derwin, lived in Jackson Co. AL info. requested on this family. 4.ASENETH (Asena) m. first Ezekiel Harlen (can't find who he was) then a Mr. Miller. in 1835 she was living near Lexington, KY. She must have had some children-Harlan or Miller. Info. requested on her. Some of the girls married in Blount Co.,TN before 1800. 5. John in Fayette Co. AL (do not confuse with son of Augustine Blackburn who also lived in Fayette Co.) 6. James, lived in Arkansas. He may have been teacher or preacher may be the James who m.Jeanie Davies as alleged but not proven. 7.Benjamin m. Nancy---? Source: deposition of Benjamin 3rd. in 1835. Benjamin, Jr. was well past middle age when he came to AL with his son Benjamin (3rd.) who died in 1850's. Benjamin (3rd) said in a deposition that he had thirteen children , nine sons and four daughters. Sons Robert and Edward survived the Civil War but I can't find anything of them after the war. I can guess at probably names of some other sons- John sold his property in AL and left for TX in 1836( or was this his brother ?) where he died. There was a Henry in the vicinity who m. Edy Ward. Other likely and common Blackburn family names would be William, James, Samuel. One dau. m. William Copeland but they both died before 1850. One dau. m. a Brooks . She was on the census with her mother and two or three children after the war. I believe another dau. m. McKinney. It isn't known whether all nine sons of Benjamin, 3rd. lived in Alabama. Some of them may have been of age and had their own families by the time he settled in AL. They may have stayed in TN or.... The whereabouts of Benjamin, Jr. before AL are a mystery. He fought at the Battle of Point Pleasant where he was wounded (recieved pension which was transferred to AL from TN). Some say he went to Ohio after Rev. War, later moving to TN, another account identifies him as the Benjamin Blackburn who maintained a Tavern in Crossville, TN where various public meetings were held in the early days of TN. He certainly spent some time in TN. He inherited the family Bible from his father. It would be wonderful to discover this and maybe solve some mysteries of the origin of the family line. Hope someone has a clue. M. Blackburn

i believe Hudson Blackburn Was The Son Of William Blackburn .
James and Nancy [Amanda Jones] Blackburn are found in Red River County, TX in the 1850 Census. In 1860, they are in Clarksville, RR Co. TX. In 1870 they are in Robbinsville. The 1850 Census includes the following: Blackburn, James age 55 M b. SC [other Census say NC] Abt 1795-1798 Nancy [Jones] 43 F b. TN abt 1807 Morris 25 M b. TN abt 1825 William 22 M b. TN abt 1828 Lavina Jane 20 F b. TN abt 1830 Rhoda Ann 18 F b. TN abt 1832 Margaret 13 F b. TN abt 1837 Johem 11 M b. TN abt 1839 Merinda 8 F b. TN abt 1842 Rebecca 6 F b. TN abt 1844 Lewis [Louise] 3 F b. TX abt 1847 Lavina Jane Blackburn married Jacob C. Harris in Aug. 1850. They had two children, Harriet Lavina and John Vance Harris. Lavina died when Harriet was four and John was two. Jacob Harris remarried, but he either died in the Civil War or was imprisoned and died in prison. Harriet's stepmother was bringing the children back from AR or TN to their grandparents home near Clarksville. John V. died on the way back. Harriet lived with her Blackburn grandparents until she married Benjamin Duncan Wingo. It has been said that James was the son of Samuel and Margaret Patterson Blackburn, grandson of James B. and Jane Rankin Blackburn. According to the book by Frances Blackburn Hilliard page 27, the names of James' children and the birthdates do not match those found on the 1850 Red River Census. There is a James Blackburn listed on the 1830 Census for McMinn Co. TN. This could be my James. Can anyone help to prove or disprove? Thank you so much for your help. I love this list. Pat
