Owen, I found the research notes of my great g-pa, Oliver Virgil Blackburn (1888-1967). He wrote the following on a piece of his business stationary. The phone number, TH-9719 dates back to the 1950's. So I believe this is when he wrote it. He drew a strange pedigree chart. He shows Jos. Clay S. and brother Luke P (Perry) as sons of Edward M. He shows Edward's siblings as: Ann, Margaret, Mildred, Elizabeth, your Edward M., Luke, George, Mary, Jonathan, and William B. Next to Mildred, someone else (it's not Oliver's writing) wrote in 1758-1802. It said they came from KY 1797. All of those kids up there are children of George, b. 1746. He shows a brother James (went to KY 1780-90) and had 12 sons. He shows a sister Elizabeth and makes no other notes on her. Edward (I think m. Ann) was the father of George and Elizabeth, and supposedly James. This is stuff typed up by my long gone relatives and I have no clue where they get that inference from. But they are really good and copying it over and over. Then this chart of Oliver's looks like Edward's father was Capt. William. But he also shows Capt. William as a brother to Edward. I think he just wrote a note about Capt. William above Edward's name and now all the long gone relatives assumed it was Edward's father. The note says, "Capt. William Blackburn, Newcastle upon Tyne England 1653-1714 Resided in Glouchter Co. Va." When I think about it, the dates don't jive right. Tomorrow I will post the article from "The Kentucky Encyclopedia" by John E. Kleber, Editor in Chief, Thomas D. Clark, Lowell H. Harrison, Jams C. Klotter, Associate Editors, pub. by the University Press of Kentucky. I didn't copy the copyright page. I see that the Los Angeles Public Library obtained the book in 1992. So it was published before then. Joseph Clay Stiles was a U.S. Senator, fought in the Civil War, was a lawyer, did something in the Panama Canal, and was married twice. (I skimmed the article). Full details on Thursday. Good night, Cheri Mello Torrance CA

I did not cover the early records. However, for my sources, I used Michael Tepper's "American Passenger Arrival Records," published by GPC. You would be interested in Chapter 1: The Colonial Period. You public library may have a copy of the book. Cheri Mello
Please add me to the list. Cheri Mello [email protected]
Owen, I have a little bit of info, as my great-grandfather had him tied into his tree. I'm not sure if he ties in, but I have his stuff that he did in the 1950's, as well as an article that I found in a book on KY. Give me about a week to find the stuff and copy it. If you don't hear back from me in a week, BUG ME!!!!!! (I get busy and forget).
