    3. I always wondered where the musical talent came from. My best childhood memories are of my dad singing, whistling, and picking out " The Star Spangled Banner" on the piano. Thanks! 1. [BLKBURN] Musical Blackburns
    2. Has anyone ever noticed the trend that Blackburns tend to be musical? I wonder if I'm the only one. I have many musical Blackburns, or musical members of my family who descends from a Blackburn...... I have talked to others, both of my family and not of my family..... (Other Blackburns) and they have also said that their Blackburns and related descendants are musical. Or tend to be very musical. Up until a year ago, I wouldn't have said I was musical. I was far from it, but I've picked up the piano pretty quickly.... Others have noticed I have understood things about the piano better than others in my class. And I keep thinking.... its my Blackburns! I heard a funny quote a few days ago..... someone told me that they do genealogy to "find out who to blame...." for their curly hair, athletic talent, grey eyes.... etc. I think that it is funny, but also very true.... you can learn alot from your ancestors. And about where you get certain traits. For instance, my great grandmother was a 6'3 Swedish woman..... several inches taller than my great grandfather. I'm 6'2 or so, and because all my other ancestors rarely have gone above 5'10 I have basically decided I am definitely my great grandmother Marchants descendant. Its interesting. I bet if you looked, you could find characteristics of yourself in your ancestors. Brad

    3. In the Blackburn book written by Evelyn Gibson Copyright 1978, says in respect to Gamaliel, that King William awarded to Gamaliel was granted the Manor of Blackburn. On the west coast of northern England. It was suppose to be 10000 acre tract and the estate had 1,800 acre estate. In the book at the time of the writing it says the area is now the site of the city of blackburn. Gamaliel became Gamaliel de Blackburn, Lord of Blackburn Manor. The de in his name represents the Norman descent. There is alot more talking about the lineage from Gamaliel , to Gilbert, to John to Henry de Blackburn living about 1160. Then two sons, Richard and Adam. The one son Richard had a son he named Adam. Adam had two daughters. There is more. The source used was William Alexander Abram, Blackburn, the Descent of the Manor; The de Blackburn Family (Blackburn, Eng.: j.G. &J. Toulmin, 1877),pp 249-255. Blackburn, Encyclopedia Brittanica, 1960, III, 680. Perhaps you would like to go to the www.blackburn-tree.org For me it was well worth the money. 3. Dear Carol, I don't think I have answered your January email on Brinton Blackburn. My Sarah Matlack Brinton, who married William Blackburn, was born in PA 1848, father George Matlack Brinton born PA 1814, grandmother Sarah Matlack born 1789, all of Chester and Westmoreland Counties PA. I have the Brintons originating in Staffordshire from 1500s. Associated family names: Darlington (there is also a Brinton Darlington in my files, in addition to your Brinton Blackburn), Bagley, Tomlinson, Thatcher, Pierce, Haines, Dicks, Smedley, Mercer, Matlack. Let me know if any of this rings a bell, and I'll send more information. None of the given names you mention are familiar to me. I am copying the Brinton list, in case anyone there has anything to add. Bill Blackburn Mt. 3. I have not posted in a while so I thought I'd see if any new listers had ties to my line in middle Tennessee. I descend from a William Blackburn who lived in Smith & DeKalb county TN. There are almost too many Williams to count, so perhaps some maiden names will help. One William married a Mary Baird 1856, divorced her and married Charity Hass Self Youngblood 187x. This William had a son ( also William ) who married Amy Lou Braswell. Does this look like anyones family? Anyone close to the area of Brush Creek, Piegon Roost, New Middleton, or Liberty TN. How about Blackburn ties to Salem Baptist Church in Liberty? Lee Blackburn McCracken Co. KY
